4.3.5 Primary and Secondary Master/Slave While entering Setup, BIOS auto-detects the presence of IDE devices. There is a separate sub-menu for each IDE device. Select a device item then press Enter to display the IDE device information. The values opposite the dimmed items (Capacity, Cylinder, Head, PreComp, Landing Zone) are auto-detected by BIOS and are not userconfigurable. These items show N/A if no IDE device is installed in the system. IDE HDD Auto-Detection [Press Enter] If there is no IDE hard disk drive displayed on this field, press to automatically detect an IDE hard disk drive. In cases of undetected HDDs, pressing enter will detect the HDD and then open access to both the IDE Primary Master and Access Mode fields. IDE Primary Master [Auto] Select [Auto] to automatically detect an IDE hard disk drive. If automatic detection is successful, the setup BIOS automatically fills in the correct values for the remaining fields on this sub-menu. If automatic detection fails, this may be because the hard disk drive is too old or too new. If the hard disk was already formatted on a previous system, the setup BIOS may detect incorrect parameters. In these cases, select [Manual] to manually enter the IDE hard disk drive parameters. If no drive is installed or if you are removing a drive and not replacing it, select [None]. Configuration options: [None] [Auto [Manual] ASUS A7N8X-E Deluxe motherboard 4-11
