1.7 System memory 1.7.1 Overview The motherboard comes with two 184-pin Double Data Rate (DDR) Dual Inline Memory Modules (DIMM) sockets. The following figure illustrates the location of the sockets: R K8N-VM K8N-VM 184-pin DDR DIMM Sockets 1.7.2 Memory configurations You may install 128 MB, 256 MB, 512 MB, and 1 GB unbuffered ECC/non-ECC DDR DIMMs into the DIMM sockets using the memory configurations in this section. • Installing DDR DIMMs other than the recommended configurations may cause memory sizing error or system boot failure. Use any of the recommended configurations on the next page. • Always install DIMMs with the same CAS latency. For optimum compatibility, it is recommended that you obtain memory modules from the same vendor. Refer to the DDR400 Qualified Vendors List on the next page for details. • Due to chipset limitation, this motherboard does not support DIMM modules with less than or equal to 128 Mb memory chips. Overview
