Setting the Options for FaxTel Mode When selecting FaxTel mode, the following options can be set. • Adjust the time the machine takes to check whether a call is from a fax machine or a telephone (RING START TIME setting). • Adjust the length of time the machine rings when the call is a voice call (F/T RING TIME setting). • Set whether the machine switches to receive mode after the ring time set in F/T RING TIME has elapsed (F/T SWITCH ACTION setting). I What Happens When FaxTel Mode is Selected Type of call Telephone Fax Sending document manually Fax Sending document automatically Telephone charges begin for the caller. The machine answers without ringing. The machine listens for the fax tone. (for 8 sec.) RING START TIME (Factory default setting = 8 sec.) The fax tone is detected. The document is received automatically. The fax tone is detected and the machine switches to 5 The fax tone is not detected. receive mode. Receiving Faxes F/T RING TIME (Factory default setting =15 sec.) The machine starts ringing. If you do not pick up the handset (within 15 sec.). Pick up the handset to talk. F/T SWITCH ACTION Choose between: RECEIVE (Factory default setting) and DISCONNECT. DISCONNECT The machine disconnects the call. RECEIVE (Factory default setting) Not all fax machines are capable of sending a fax tone. For those cases if you set the F/T SWITCH ACTION to RECEIVE, the machine switches to receive mode automatically and starts receiving the document. If no document comes in, it disconnects the call after approximately 40 seconds. 5-3
