As of this printing, Microsoft has released version 4.01, which includes a number of enhancements, most notably in the area of security. HIGHLIGHTS Key differences between the Pre-install Refresh and the prior pre-install image include: (1) Windows NT 4.0 pre-install images have been updated to include Microsoft Service Pack 3. (2) Windows 95 and Windows NT 4.0 pre-install images have been updated to include Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0. The previous version, 3.02, has been removed from the pre-install image. (3) Installing Service Pack 3 on Windows NT 4.0 pre-install images necessitated an upgrade of two key Compaq software components. These two components are Power Management and Multibay providing enhanced power management and Multibay device swapping capability respectively. Older versions of these components will not work with Service Pack 3. (4) Updated video drivers for both Windows 95 and Windows NT 4.0. The update does not add new functionality, it only introduces fixes to problems identified with earlier versions. (5) Updated audio drivers for Windows 95. (6) The desktop configuration includes a convenient icon that launches Microsoft Service Pack 3 setup. Although Service Pack 3 is already installed, making operating configuration changes that involve changes to networking components may require reapplication of Service Pack 3.
