2-72 Compaq Parallel Database Cluster Model PDC/O2000 for Oracle8i and Windows 2000 Administrator Guide Ethernet Cluster Interconnect Adapters To implement the Ethernet cluster interconnect, each cluster node must be equipped with Ethernet adapters capable of 100-Mbit/second transfer rates. Some adapters may be capable of operating at both 10-Mbit/second and 100-Mbit/second; however, Ethernet adapters used for the cluster interconnect must run at 100-Mbit/second. The Ethernet adapters must have passed Windows 2000 Advanced HCT certification. NOTE: If you are using dual-port Ethernet adapters in a non-redundant Ethernet cluster interconnect, you can use one port for the Ethernet cluster interconnect and the second port for the client LAN. Refer to the technical white paper Supported Ethernet Interconnects for Compaq Parallel Database Clusters Using Oracle Parallel Server for detailed information about configuring redundant Ethernet cluster interconnects. This document is available at www.compaq.com/support/techpubs/whitepapers For detailed information about installing an Ethernet cluster interconnect, see Chapter 5, "Installation and Configuration." Ethernet Switch IMPORTANT: The Ethernet switch or switches used with the Ethernet cluster interconnect must be dedicated to the cluster interconnect. They cannot be connected to the client network (LAN) or to servers that are not part of the PDC/O2000 cluster. When an Ethernet cluster interconnect is used in a cluster with three or more nodes, a 100-Mbit/second Ethernet switch is required for the cluster interconnect path. The 100-Mbit/second Ethernet switch handles the higher network loads essential to the uninterrupted operation of the cluster. An Ethernet hub cannot be used.
