STARTING THE ENGINE 1. Movethe bladedepthcontrol leverbackto the STARTpositionin the adjacent(top) notch. 2. Whenstartingthe enginefor the firsttime, pushprimerfive times. Forall futurestarts,pushthe primerthreetimes.Wait about two secondsbetweeneachpush. See Figure6. Donot primeto restarta warmengine. 3. Standingbehindthe edger,depressthe bladecontrolbail and hold it againstthe upper handlewith yourleft hand. 4. With yourrighthand,graspthe recoilstarterhandleand slowly pull the rope outwarduntilenginereachesthe startof its compressioncycle (the ropewill pull slightlyharderat this point). 5. After slowlyallowingthe ropeto recoil, pull the ropewith a rapid, continuous,full arm stroke.Keepa firm grip on starterhandle throughouttheentirestroke. Rapidretractionof startercord (kickback)will pull handand arm towardengine fasterthan youcan let go. Brokenbones,fractures, bruisesor sprainscould result. 6. Allowthe starterhandleto slowlyreturnto the eyebolt. NOTE:If engine floods,wait a few minutesto restart,butdo not prime. TO STOP ENGINE 1. Releasebladecontrolto stop the engineand blade. EDGING Rotatingcuttingblademay throwobjectscausingpersonalinjury. Keeparea clearof bystandersand do not operatewithoutguardsin place. Figure6 Do notlowerblade if blade is overconcrete,asphalt,rocksor the like. Bladecan strikesupportingsurface,resultingin personalinjuryor propertydamage. Tobeginedging,proceedas follows: 1. Moveedgerto an area to be edged,makingsurethat the left rear wheelis on a hardsurfaceand the bladeis overthe area to be cut. See Figure7. 2. With the bladecontrolbail squeezedagainstthe handlein the operatingposition,makea passalong area to be edged before proceedingto the next notch.Thefurther forwardthat the blade depthcontrolleveris moved,the deeperor lowerthe bladewill cut into theground.Severalpassesmay be necessaryto obtain the desireddepthof cut. Slowlymove edgerback and forth throughcuttingarea,again makingsureto keepthe left rear wheelon the hard surfaceand the blade in the cuttingpath,close to but not touchingthe edge of the hard surface. 4. STARTING

1.
Movethe bladedepthcontrol leverbackto the STARTposition
in
the adjacent(top) notch.
2.
Whenstartingthe enginefor the firsttime, pushprimerfive times.
Forallfuturestarts,pushtheprimerthreetimes.Waitabout
two secondsbetweeneachpush. See Figure6. Donot primeto
restarta warmengine.
3.
Standingbehindthe edger,depressthe bladecontrolbailand
hold it againstthe upper handlewith yourleft hand.
4.
Withyourrighthand,grasptherecoilstarterhandleandslowly
pull the rope outwarduntilenginereachesthe startof its com-
pressioncycle (the ropewill pull slightlyharderat this point).
5.
After slowlyallowingthe ropeto recoil, pull the ropewith a rapid,
continuous,full arm stroke.Keepa firm griponstarterhandle
throughouttheentirestroke.
Rapidretractionof startercord (kickback)will pullhandandarm
towardenginefasterthan youcan let go. Brokenbones,fractures,
bruisesorsprainscouldresult.
6.
Allowthe starterhandleto slowlyreturnto the eyebolt.
NOTE:If engine floods,wait a few minutesto restart,butdo not prime.

Releasebladecontroltostoptheengineandblade.
EDGING
Rotatingcuttingblademaythrowobjectscausingpersonalinjury.
Keepareaclearofbystandersanddonotoperatewithoutguardsin
place.
Do notlowerblade if blade is overconcrete,asphalt,rocksor the like.
Bladecan strikesupportingsurface,resultinginpersonalinjuryor
propertydamage.
Tobeginedging,proceedas follows:

Moveedgerto an area to be edged,makingsurethat the left rear
wheelis on a hardsurfaceand the bladeis overthe area to be
cut.SeeFigure7.
2.
Withthebladecontrolbailsqueezedagainstthehandleinthe
operatingposition,makeapassalongareatobeedgedbefore
proceedingto the nextnotch.Thefurtherforwardthatthe blade
depthcontrolleveris moved,the deeperor lowerthe bladewill
cutintotheground.Severalpassesmaybenecessarytoobtain
thedesireddepthofcut.Donotlowerblademorethanonedepth
notchat a timewithoutmakinga pass.
