The
Dell OpenManage Server Assistant
CD that came with your PowerEdge 1550 system does not
support the installation of the Microsoft Windows NT Server 4.0 operating system. To install Windows
NT Server 4.0 on a PowerEdge 1550 system, download all of the necessary drivers for the PowerEdge
1550 from the Dell support site at
before beginning to install the operating sys-
tem. Extract the downloaded drivers from the self-extracting zip files and copy them onto a diskette, CD,
or other portable medium that will be accessible during installation of the Windows NT Server 4.0 oper-
ating system.
NOTE: The Windows NT Server 4.0 setup program does not recognize the system±s integrated
Adaptec 7899 small computer system interface (SCSI) controller or the optional PowerEdge RAID
Controller 3/Dual-Channel Lite (PERC 3/DCL) controller and will not load drivers for either device. To
enable one of these devices under Windows NT Server 4.0, load the proper driver from diskette.
The driver for the device that controls the boot drive (the Adaptec 7899 SCSI controller or PERC 3/DCL
controller, depending on your system±s configuration) must be on a diskette because it is the first
storage driver you must load at the beginning of the operating system installation.
To install Windows NT Server 4.0, perform the following steps:
1.
Install the SCSI driver.
2.
Install the driver for integrated network adapters.
3.
Complete the Windows NT Server 4.0 installation.
4.
Install the latest available Service Pack (recommended).
