Overview This document provides requirements for operating a mix of LTO-2 and LTO-3 drives in the Dell™ PowerVault™ 136T LTO tape library. The following requirements must be met in order to operate a mixed mode library: • LTO-2 and LTO-3 drive modules are installed in the library. • The library meets the minimum firmware requirements. • Correct bar code labels are applied to all LTO media in the library. • The library is configured to read extended bar code labels. • The backup software is configured to manage mixed media and mixed drives. Installing LTO-2 and LTO-3 Drive Modules If you are installing or upgrading to LTO-3 drives, please see the Dell PowerVault 136T User's Guide or the document titled Upgrading the LTO-1 or LTO-2 Tape Drive Modules to LTO-3 Tape Drive Modules. You can download both documents from the Dell Support website at support.dell.com. There is no restriction on the number of LTO-2 or LTO-3 drives that must be installed or the order in which the drives must be installed. The library recognizes and utilizes the drives in any order. However, it is recommended that similar drives are installed together for easy management. NOTE: Mixing of LTO-1 or SDLT drives with LTO-2 or LTO-3 drives is not supported. NOTE: For enhanced performance, it is recommended that customers with 5101 Storage Network Controllers (SNC) upgrade to a 6101 SNC. Dell PowerVault 136T LTO Tape Library 3

Overview
This document provides requirements for operating a mix of LTO-2
