before setting surface controls The radiant surface elements are located on the 36" cooktop as follows: Model C: • Two small 6 inch radiant element located one at the left rear and the other one at the right rear position. • One dual 6 or 9 inch radiant element located at the right front position. • One 12 inch radiant element located at the left front position. • One 7 inch radiant element located at center rear position. Model C Model D: • Two small 6 inch radiant element located one at the left rear and the other one at the right rear position. • One dual 6 or 9 inch radiant element located at the right front position. • One dual 9 or 12 inch radiant element located at the left front position. • One 7 inch radiant element located at center rear position. NOTE Due to the high intensity of heat generated by the surface elements, the glass surface will turn green when the element will be turned off. This phenomenon is normal and the glass will come back to its original white color after it has completely cooled down. (White glass cooktops only). Surface cooking settings Use the chart to determine the correct setting for the type of food you are preparing. Note: The size and type of cookware used will influence the setting needed for best cooking results. Recommended Setting for Surface Element Setting Type of Cooking HIGH (HI) Start most foods; bring water to a boil and pan broiling. MEDIUM HIGH Continue a rapid boil; frying, deep fat (8-10) frying. MEDIUM (6) Maintain a slow boil; thicken sauces and gravies; steaming vegetables. MEDIUM LOW Keep foods cooking; poaching and (2 - 4) stewing. LOW (LO) Keep warm, melting and simmering. NOTE Radiant elements have a limiter that allows the element to cycle on and off, even at the HI setting. This helps to prevent damage to the ceramic smooth top. Cycling at the HI setting is normal and can occur if the cookware is too small for the radiant element or if the cookware bottom is not flat. Model D 6 CAUTION Do not place plastic items such as salt and pepper shakers, spoon holders or plastic wrappings on cooktop when it is in use. These items could melt or ignite. Potholders, towels or wooden spoons could catch fire if placed too close to the surface elements. CAUTION Do not allow aluminum foil, or ANY material that can melt to make contact with the ceramic glass cooktop. If these items melt on the cooktop they will damage the ceramic cooktop.
