44 Keyboard Keyboard Using the onscreen keyboard When you tap an item and it requires you to enter text or numbers, the onscreen keyboard becomes available. Selecting a default keyboard layout You can set the default keyboard layout that suits your typing style. 1. From the main Home screen, press OPTIONS, and then tap Settings. 2. Tap Locale & text > Text input settings > Keyboard types. 3. Select the keyboard layout that you want to use. QWERTY Keypad Phone Keypad This layout is similar to a computer keyboard. This is the default keyboard layout. This layout resembles the traditional mobile phone keypad. Entering text Use the following keys while entering text using the onscreen keyboard: Tap a letter shown on the lower half of a key. Press and hold keys with gray characters at the top to enter numbers, symbols, or accented letters. Some keys have multiple characters or accents associated with them. Enter key. Tap to create a new line. If multiple lines are not allowed, tapping this key closes the onscreen keyboard. Shift key. Tap to enter an uppercase letter. Tap twice to turn Caps lock on. Backspace key. Tap to delete the previous character. Orientation key. Tap to switch between portrait and landscape orientation. For more information, see "Changing to the landscape onscreen keyboard."
