It is considered a best practice to uniformly upgrade all switches in the SAN. Multiple-path support Multiple-path capability is integrated into the VMware operating system. No additional software required to achieve high-availability, multipathing capability. For detailed VMware multipathing information, see the vmkmultipath command in the ESX Server Administrators Guide. 4
