MB SDRAM DIMMs and downsizing the memory configuration • Installing the 4 GB memory board • Powering up the system Installation Basics The HP NetServer LXr Pro8 accepts up to two memory boards. Each board has 32 DIMM sockets and accepts only 128 MB SDRAM DIMMS, for a maximum capacity of 4096 MB per - HP LH4r | HP Netserver LXr Pro8 Memory Board - Page 10

must be turned off before removing or installing the 4 GB memory boards. 1. Save your existing system configuration. 2. Log off all users, shut down all networking software, applications, and the operating system. 3. Unlock the power interlock switch at the back of the HP NetServer's rear panel by turning it clockwise (Figure 2-5). The switch turns off DC power to the HP NetServer, and - HP LH4r | HP Netserver LXr Pro8 Memory Board - Page 14

To reach these boards, you extend the satellite chassis and remove the lower fan module and rear access panel. NOTE If the server is mounted - HP LH4r | HP Netserver LXr Pro8 Memory Board - Page 15
the HP NetServer and grasp the two ejector handles on the HP NetServer's rear panel. Pull both handles down firmly, and then pull the satellite toward you. Pull it out until its slides are fully extended. The slides lock in the extended position, so that the satellite cannot move while you service - HP LH4r | HP Netserver LXr Pro8 Memory Board - Page 16

Grasp the handles on either end of the fan module and push them toward each other. b. While continuing to push on the handles, pull the fan - HP LH4r | HP Netserver LXr Pro8 Memory Board - Page 17

2 Installing Memory in the 4 GB Memory Board Removing the Existing 4 GB Memory Board The HP NetServer has one 4 GB memory board installed. Follow these steps to remove the existing memory board for a memory upgrade: 1. After removing the rear access panel, locate the existing 4 GB memory board - HP LH4r | HP Netserver LXr Pro8 Memory Board - Page 20
Use only 128 SDRAM DIMMs acquired from HP. Contact HP Customer Support for a list of qualified 128 MB SDRAM DIMMs. HP will not support configurations that use non-HP SDRAM DIMMs. 1. If you are installing a new memory board, remove the 4 GB memory board from its anti-static container. 2. With - HP LH4r | HP Netserver LXr Pro8 Memory Board - Page 21
Chapter 2 Installing Memory in the 4 GB Memory Board 4. Locate the slot where you will install the 128 SDRAM DIMM, and spread the two DIMM retaining clips outward. (Figure 6. Hold the SDRAM DIMM so that the front edge faces straight down into the connector (at a 90° angle to the memory board). 17 - HP LH4r | HP Netserver LXr Pro8 Memory Board - Page 22
installed in specific DIMM slots for each memory configuration. You must remove SDRAM DIMMs so that the remaining memory is installed in the correct DIMM slots. Follow these steps to remove 128 MB SDRAM DIMMs from the 4 GB memory board: 1. Power down the satellite chassis. (See Power Down Procedure - HP LH4r | HP Netserver LXr Pro8 Memory Board - Page 23
DIMMs and reinstall in new slots to match the DIMM slot configuration for the downsized memory. (See Figure 2-2.) CAUTION Close all retaining clips on the 4 GB memory board before inserting it into your NetServer. close the retaining latches on the front of the memory board to seat it snugly (Figure 2-13). The memory controller corrects POST Test During the POST (Power-On Self-Test), the BIOS checks memory to ensure that all DIMMs are part of the NetServer Utilities package on the HP NetServer Navigator CD-ROM. If you have booted from the HP Navigator - HP LH4r | HP Netserver LXr Pro8 Memory Board - Page 30
DIMM sizes. HP will not support DIMMs of varying sizes. If these are mixed in a single bank, the system continues to run, and memory downsizing occurs. ECC Single-bit errors, which are divided into two types. The memory controller corrects "soft" single-bit errors without any effect on the system. - HP LH4r | HP Netserver LXr Pro8 Memory Board - Page 31
