Dynamic Power Management works with Turbo Boost to increase performance and optimize the power consumption of the processor, chipset, and memory. For additional information about Intel Xeon E5-2600 series processors, read the HP paper titled ―AMD Opteron and Intel Xeon x86 processors in industry-standard servers.‖ It's available at www.hp.com/servers/technology. Memory technologies ProLiant Gen8 servers support HP SmartMemory and enhanced memory protection with HP Advanced Memory Error Detection Technology. HP SmartMemory HP SmartMemory is HP Qualified Memory that has unique performance and power consumption characteristics when installed in ProLiant Gen8 servers. The HP Qualified Memory brand (Figure 1) means that the DIMM has undergone extensive qualification and testing to ensure the highest level of quality, performance, and availability for ProLiant servers. With HP SmartMemory, you also receive enhanced support through the HP Active Health System (see ―HP iLO Management Engine‖). Figure 1: The HP Qualified Memory brand signifies DRAM with the highest quality and reliability in the server industry. HP SmartMemory uses significantly less power than third-party memory while achieving the same performance. At low voltage (1.35 V), it operates at DDR3-1333 MHz with one and two DIMMs per channel and at DDR3-1066 MHz with three DIMMs per channel. In comparison, third-party memory has to run at 1.5 V to achieve the same performance. Our measurements show that SmartMemory uses 15% to 20% less power than third-party memory. HP SmartMemory performance is higher than third-party memory at the same operating voltage. ProLiant Gen8 servers operate LV-UDIMMs, LV-RDIMMs, and LV-LRDIMMs at a 25% faster bus rate than third-party memory at the same voltage with one or two DIMMs per channel. In addition, ProLiant Gen8 servers support one and two DIMMs per channel at DDR3-1600 MHz and three DIMMs per channel at DDR3-1333 MHz at the standard voltage of 1.5 V. HP SmartMemory has the best warranty in the industry. For more information, go to http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/servers/options/memory-description.html. HP Advanced Memory Error Detection Technology Industry-wide, memory errors have increased significantly due to the growth in server memory capacity and the increased number of bits per DRAM chip. Uncorrectable memory errors can cause applications and operating systems to crash, so they are costly in terms of downtime and repairs. 5
