HP StorageWorks 4/16 HP StorageWorks Fabric OS 6.0.0b release notes (5697-7345 - Page 7

Prerequisites, Access Gateway enhancements

Page 7 highlights

Access Gateway enhancements Auto Port Configuration (APC) policy Provides the ability to automatically discover port types (host versus fabric) and dynamically update the routing maps when a new connection is detected. This policy is intended for a fully hands-off operation. Multi-fabric connectivity Fabric OS 6.x allows an Access Gateway enabled product to connect to multiple fabrics. This is done through partitioning related host and fabric connections into independently operated groups. Enhanced path failover Customers can explicitly restrict N_Port failover to a group of N_Ports (Port Grouping Policy) or to a single secondary path (Preferred N_Port). Secure Fabric OS (SFOS) feature not compatible with Fabric OS 6.x and later Customers that wish to use the security features available in SFOS should upgrade to Fabric OS 5.3.x, which includes all SFOS features. For environments with SFOS installed on switches that cannot be upgraded to Fabric OS 5.3 or later, FC routing can be used to interoperate with Fabric OS 6.x. Prerequisites Table 1 summarizes current Fabric OS firmware versions. However, HP recommends using the latest supported firmware release versions to get the greatest benefit from the SAN. Access Gateway enhancements
Auto Port Con
guration (APC) policy
Provides the ability to automatically discover port types (host versus fabric) and dynamically update the
routing maps when a new connection is detected. This policy is intended for a fully hands-off operation.
Multi-fabric connectivity
Fabric OS 6.x allows an Access Gateway enabled product to connect to multiple fabrics. This is done
through partitioning related host and fabric connections into independently operated groups.
Enhanced path failover
Customers can explicitly restrict N_Port failover to a group of N_Ports (Port Grouping Policy) or to a
single secondary path (Preferred N_Port).
Secure Fabric OS (SFOS) feature not compatible with Fabric
OS 6.x and later
Customers that wish to use the security features available in SFOS should upgrade to Fabric OS 5.3.x,
which includes all SFOS features. For environments with SFOS installed on switches that cannot be
upgraded to Fabric OS 5.3 or later, FC routing can be used to interoperate with Fabric OS 6.x.
