Product Update: BIOS Update Required With New Processor Steppings Situation A stepping roll is occurring on some Intel Pentium III, Celeron and Pentium 4 processors that are used in HP Servers. Affected HP Servers and processors are listed in the table below. The new steppings require new versions of BIOS to function correctly. These new versions are listed in the table below. Failure to install the new BIOS versions when installing and using these new processors will result in erratic system behavior. NOTE The new BIOS versions are backwards compatible with the current CPU steppings. CPU's with different steppings can be installed together in dual processor systems in either socket. If a BIOS update diskette is already available proceed to step 3. If a BIOS update diskette is not available it can be downloaded from the HP website at: http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/eng/support.htm. Click on the link for Netservers and then follow the links specific to your server. 2. After downloading the diskette creation utility, run it with a formatted flexible diskette inserted in the flexible diskette drive to create the BIOS update disk. 3. Boot with the flexible diskette in the system and follow the on-screen instructions to update to the new BIOS version listed in the table above. NOTE Updates to products happen frequently; therefore, printed documentation may have information that is not as current as the information on the HP website. Solution
Update the system BIOS to the required version using the BIOS update diskette.
