8 Management Interface Data Structures Within DMI data structures, all strings are stored in the form: length data where length is an unassigned 32-bit value giving the number of octets (8-bit untyped data) in the data part of the string. Note that the number of characters in the string depends on whether it is in ISO 8859-1 format (1 octet/character) or Unicode format (2 octets/character).
