NEVER use humidifier in a closed room, particularly where a child may be sleeping, resting, or playing (a closed room may result in excessive humidity). 6. WARNING: Do not attempt to refill humidifier without first unplugging the unit from its electrical outlet. Failure to heed this warning may cause personal injury. Be sure to unplug the unit by pulling on the plug and not the cord. 7. Never place anything over moisture outlet when the unit is running. 8. NEVER drop or insert any object into any openings. 9. DO NOT operate any appliance with a damaged cord or plug, after the appliance malfunctions, or if it has been dropped or damaged in any manner. Return appliance to manufacturer for examination, electrical or mechanical adjustment, or repair. 10. Use appliance only for intended household use as described in this manual. Any other use not recommended by the manufacturer may cause fire, electric shock, or injury to persons. The use of attachments not recommended or sold by the manufacturer may cause hazards. 11. DO NOT use outdoors. 12. Always place humidifier on a firm, flat, level surface. A waterproof mat or pad is recommended for use under the humidifier. NEVER place it on a rug or carpet, or on a finished floor that may be damaged by exposure to water or moisture. 13. DO NOT allow the Moisture Outlet to directly face the wall. Moisture could cause damage, particularly to wall paper. 14. Humidifier should be unplugged when not in use. 15. NEVER tilt, move, or attempt to empty unit while it is operating. Shut off and unplug before removing the water tank and moving the unit. 16. This humidifier requires daily and weekly maintenance to operate appropriately. Refer to daily and weekly cleaning procedures. Use only cleaners and additives recommended by the manufacturer. 17. NEVER use detergents, gasoline, glass cleaner, furniture polish, paint thinner, or other household solvents to clean any part of the humidifier. THIS APPLIANCE HAS A POLARIZED PLUG (one blade is wider than the other). To reduce the risk of electric shock, this plug is intended to fit in a polarized outlet only one way. If the plug does not fit fully in the outlet, reverse the plug. If it still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician to install the proper outlet. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO MODIFY THIS PLUG OR DEFEAT THIS SAFETY FEATURE IN ANY WAY. FEATURES - OPERATIONS IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS 18. Excessive humidity in a room can cause water condensation on windows and some furniture. If this happens, turn the humidifier OFF. 19. Do not use humidifier in an area where humidity level is in excess of 50%. Use a hygrometer, available at your local retailer or through the manufacturer, to measure the humidity. 20. DO NOT attempt to repair or adjust any electrical or mechanical functions on this unit. Doing so will void your warranty. The inside of the unit contains no user serviceable parts. All servicing should be performed by qualified personnel only. 21. Never place housing under water flow or immerse in liquids. 22. Do not plug in the cord with wet hands: electric shock could result. 23. Do not pour water in any openings other than the water tank. 24. To prevent damage to surfaces, do not place humidifier under overhanging surfaces. 25. NEVER operate unit without water in the tank. 26. Do not move unit after it has been used until unit cools completely. 27. Use both hands when carrying full tank of water. PLEASE READ AND SAVE THESE IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS Consumer Safety Information NOTE: This is an electrical appliance and requires attention when in use. NOTE: If moisture forms on the walls or windows of the room, turn off the humidifier. The room already has plenty of humidity and additional moisture may cause damage. NOTE: DO NOT block air inlet or outlet. Cord and Plug Installation Safety Instructions The length of cord used on this appliance was selected to reduce the hazards of becoming tangled in, or tripping over a longer cord. If a longer cord is necessary an approved extension cord may be used. The electrical rating of the extension cord must be equal to or greater than the rating of the humidifier. Care must be taken to arrange the extension cord so that it will not drape over the countertop or tabletop where it can be pulled on by children or accidentally tripped over. HOW COOL MIST WORKS Your Holmes® Cool Mist humidifier draws dry air through the rear air intake grill area. This air is then passed through a moisture-laden wick filter, which retains the minerals and deposits in the water. The resulting moist air is directed back into the room from the top air grill. NOTE: This humidification system provides a cool, invisible moisture output. It is normal not to see the mist. NOTE: A humidity level below 20% can be unhealthy and uncomfortable. The recommended humidity level is between 40%-50%. PRE-OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS 1. Be sure the humidifier is switched OFF and disconnected from the electrical outlet. 2. Select a location for your humidifier, on a flat surface, about 4" away from the wall. Do not place your humidifier on furniture or under an overhanging surface; a floor location that will not be damaged by moisture is best. 3. Remove the water tank by holding the tank handle and lifting straight upward (see Figure 2). 4. Remove the main housing by lifting straight upward. Check to see that the wick filter is properly in place. Replace the humidifier housing. FILLING THE WATER TANK NOTE: This humidifier holds about 1 gallon of water in the tank and humidifier base. The humidifier will produce up to 2 gallons of moisture over a 24-Hour period, depending on the room humidity and temperature. 1. Be sure the humidifier is switched OFF and disconnected from the electrical outlet. 2. Remove the tank from the base by holding the handle and lifting straight up (see Figure 2). FEATURES - OPERATIONS REPLACING INSTRUCTIONS 3. Twist off the tank cap located on the bottom of the tank by turning counter clockwise and fill the water tank with cool, fresh water. Do not fill with warm water as this may cause leaking. 4. After filling the tank, replace the tank cap by firmly turning clockwise and then replace the water tank on the base. The tank will immediately begin to empty into the base. 5. Plug the power cord into a 120V AC electrical outlet. OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS 1. Turn the Power knob to the desired setting, LOW (I) or HIGH (II). 2. When the desired humidity level is reached the power knob can be set to a lower setting to reduce the humidification rate. Humidifier Base F. FilterCheck® Indicator D FC E NOTE: Allow up to 30 minutes for the filter to fully absorb water and the unit to produce the maximum moisture output. 3. When the water tank is empty and the water in the base is almost empty, you need to refill the tank. The fan will continue to run to help dry the humidifier. Switch off and unplug the unit. Please follow the Daily Cleaning instructions before refilling the water tank. 4. Refill the tank as directed in the Pre-Operating Instructions. If you do not plan to use the humidifier for two or more days, make sure any residual water is drained from the water tank, base and wick filter to prevent algae or bacteria growth. REPLACING THE FILTERS Through normal use, waterborne minerals and sediment become trapped in the wick filter. The harder your water, the greater the amount of minerals in the water, and the more often you will need to change your filter. You will be able to monitor the life of the filter in your humidifier by checking the FilterCheck® Indicator. When the unit is off, the FilterCheck® Indicator will read in the OFF position. After 60 minutes of use, FilterCheck® Indicator (refer to fig. 3 for close-up of indicator) will move from the OFF position and indicate your filter condition. A brand new filter will register in the GOOD section. After frequent use of your humidifier, the FilterCheck® Indicator will let you know when the filter needs to be changed. When the needle is in Figure 3 the CHANGE section, this means the proper amount of moisture is not getting into your air due to the excessive minerals and sediment that have become trapped on your filter. At this point, you should replace your filter. It is important to change your filter as indicated to obtain stated performance level. To replace the filter, follow the steps below. CLEANING/MAINTENANCE STORAGE INSTRUCTIONS 1. Be sure the humidifier is switched OFF and disconnected from the electrical outlet. 2. Remove the tank and main housing to access the base tray. 3. Discard the old filter and follow weekly cleaning instructions. 4. Insert a new filter into the filter support in the base. 5. Replace the main housing and then the tank. 6. Repeat Operating Instruction steps. It will take about 30 minutes for the humidifier to reach maximum output. NOTE: You can purchase replacement filters (model HWF62) at a local retailer, by calling 1-800-546-5637, filling out the accessory card, or by visiting www.holmesproducts.com. It is recommended that a replacement filter is purchased for uninterrupted use. STORAGE INSTRUCTIONS If your humidifier will not be in use for two days or more, or at the end of the season follow these instructions. 1. Clean and dry the humidifier thoroughly as per the Weekly Maintenance instructions above. 2. Let the humidifier dry completely before storing. Do not store with water inside the base. 3. Do not store with the reservoir cap in place. 4. Throw away the wicking filter. Do not store with wick filter in place. 5. Store in a cool dry location. CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS Humidifiers provide comfort by adding moisture to dry indoor air. To get the most of the benefit from the humidifier and avoid product failure, follow all maintenance instructions carefully. If the recommended care and maintenance guidelines are not followed, micro-organisms may be able to grow in the water within the humidifier. DAILY MAINTENANCE 1. Before cleaning, be sure the humidifier is switched OFF and disconnected from the electrical outlet. 2. Lift off the tank and the housing of the humidifier. Remove filter and place in sink or tub as the filter will release water when not in the humidifier. 3. Carry the base and the tank to the sink, remove the wick filter, then drain and rinse the base and tank thoroughly to remove any sediment and dirt. Wipe clean and dry with a clean soft cloth or paper towel. (DO NOT use metal cleaning utensils or abrasive cleaners) 4. Put the filter back in the filter supports, replace the housing, then refill the tank with cool tap water as instructed in filling the water tank instructions. WEEKLY MAINTENANCE Remove scale: 1. Repeat steps 1-3 above. 2. Clean the base by partially filling the base with one 8-oz cup of undiluted white vinegar, or by using Cleanse Clean® by Holmes. Let solution stand 20 minutes, clean all interior surfaces with a soft brush. 3. Dampen a cloth with undiluted white vinegar and wipe out entire base to remove scale. 4. Rinse with clean warm water to remove scale and the white vinegar solution before beginning to disinfect the tank. To Disinfect Humidifier base and Tank: 1. Fill tank with 1/2 teaspoon of chlorine bleach and 1/2 gallon of water. 2. Let the solution stand for 20 minutes, swishing every few minutes. Wet all surfaces. 3. Empty the tank after 20 minutes, and rinse well with water until the bleach smell is gone. Dry with a clean cloth or paper towel. 4. Refill the water tank with cool water; replace the housing and the water tank. Repeat ALL Operating Instructions. Please DO NOT attempt to open or repair the humidifier. Instrucciones de Seguridad en la Instalación del Cable y el Enchufe La longitud del cable de este artefacto fue seleccionada para reducir el riesgo de enredarse o tropezarse con un cable más largo. Si necesita usar un cable más largo, puede utilizar un cable de extensión aprobado. La capacidad eléctrica del cable de extensión debe ser igual o mayor que la capacidad del humidificador. No debe permitir que el cable de extensión cuelgue de la mesada o mesa de tal forma que pueda ser jalado por niños o causar que alguien se tropiece. COMO FUNCIONA EL VAPOR FRÍO Su humidificador Holmes® de Vapor Frío succiona aire seco a través de la rejilla de entrada de aire. Luego, el aire pasa por 6 filtros de mecha cargados de humedad, los que retienen los minerales y depósitos del agua. El aire húmedo resultante es dirigido nuevamente al ambiente por la rejilla superior. NOTA: Este sistema de humidificación proporciona una salida de humedad fría e invisible. Es normal que no se vea el vapor. NOTA: Un nivel de humedad menor al 20% puede ser nocivo e incómodo. El nivel de humedad recomendado es entre el 40% y el 50%. INSTRUCCIONES PREVIAS AL USO 1. Asegúrese de que el humidificador esté en OFF (Apagado) y desenchúfelo del tomacorriente. 2. Elija un lugar para su humidificador, en una superficie plana, aproximadamente a 4 pulgadas de distancia de la pared. No coloque el humidificador sobre un mueble o superficie saliente. Coloque la unidad en un área del piso que no pueda ser afectada por la humedad. 3. Quite el tanque de agua levantándolo por el asa, al tiempo que lo mantiene en posición vertical (Ver Fgura 2). 4. Quite la cubierta principal levantándola. Verifique que el filtro de mecha esté colocado en su lugar. Reemplace la cubierta del humidificador. COMO LLENAR EL TANQUE DE AGUA NOTA: Este humidificador almacena aproximadamente 1 galón de agua en su tanque y base. El humidificador producirá hasta 2 galones de humedad en un período de 24 horas, dependiendo de la temperatura y humedad del cuarto. 1. Asegúrese de que el humidificador esté en OFF (Apagado) y desenchúfelo del tomacorriente. 2. Quite el tanque de agua levantándolo por el asa, al tiempo que lo mantiene en posición vertical (Ver Figura 2). CARACTERISTICAS - OPERACIÓN REEMPLAZO DE LOS FILTRO 3. Gire la tapa del tanque ubicada en la parte inferior del tanque en sentido anti-horario y llene el tanque de agua con agua pura y fría. No lo llene con agua tibia ya que puede producir filtraciones. 4. Luego de llenar el tanque, reemplace la tapa del mismo girando firmemente en sentido horario y luego reemplace el agua del tanque en la base. El tanque comenzará inmediatamente a vaciarse en la base. 5. Enchufe el cable de corriente en un tomacorriente de 120 voltios AC. INSTRUCCIONES DE USO 1. Gire la perilla de potencia a la regulación deseada, LOW (I) ó HIGH (II). 2. Cuando haya alcanzado el nivel de humedad deseado, puede girar la perilla de potencia a un nivel más bajo a fin de disminuir el porcentaje de humedad. Figura 1 B A. Soporte circular del filtro B. Indicador FilterCheck® D FC E NOTA: Espere al menos 30 minutos para que el filtro absorba completamente el agua y para que la unidad emita la máxima humedad. 3. Usted debe llenar nuevamente el tanque cuando esté vacío y no haya casi agua en la base. El ventilador continuará andando para ayudar a que el humidificador se seque. Apague y desenchufe la unidad. Por favor, siga las instrucciones diarias de limpieza antes de volver a llenar el tanque de agua. 4. Vuelva a llenar el tanque según se detalla en la sección: Indicaciones previas al uso. Si planea no usar su humidificador por dos o más días, asegúrese de drenar el agua residual del tanque de agua, de la base y del filtro de mecha a fin de evitar la formación de algas y bacterias. REEMPLAZO DE LOS FILTROS Durante el uso normal de la unidad, los minerales y sedimentos arrastrados por el agua quedan retenidos en el filtro de mecha. Mientras más dura sea el agua, mayor será el número de minerales que contenga, mientras mayor sea el número de minerales en el agua, mayor será la frecuencia en que tenga que cambiar el filtro. Podrá monitorear la vida del filtro de su Figura 3 humidificador con el indicador FilterCheck®. Cuando la unidad esté apagada, el indicador FilterCheck® marcará OFF (Apagado). Después de 60 minutos de haber estado funcionando la unidad, el indicador FilterCheck® (refiérase a la figura 3 para una vista detallada del indicador) se moverá de su posición y marcará la condición del filtro. Un filtro nuevo se indicará dentro del área (BUENO). Después de haber usado con bastante frecuencia su humidificador, el indicador FilterCheck® le avisará cuando tiene que cambiar su filtro. Cuando la aguja esté en el área CAMBIAR, significa que la unidad no está emitiendo la humedad necesaria debido a la excesiva cantidad de minerales y sedimentos que se encuentran retenidos en el filtro. Ahora es cuando debe reemplazar el filtro. Para obtener un mejor rendimiento, es importante cambiar su filtro según se indica. Para reemplazar el filtro, siga los siguientes pasos: LIMPEZA / MANTENIMIENTO 1. Asegúrese de que el humidificador esté en OFF (Apagado) y desenchúfelo del tomacorriente. 2. Quite el tanque de agua y cubierta principal para acceder a la bandeja de la base. 3. Deseche el filtro viejo y siga las instrucciones de limpieza semanales. 4. Inserte un filtro nuevo en el soporte del filtro ubicado en la base. 5. Vuelva a colocar la cubierta principal y luego el tanque. 6. Repita los pasos de las instrucciones de uso. Tomará aproximadamente 30 minutos para que el humidificador alcance su potencia máxima. NOTA: Puede comprar repuestos de filtros (modelo HWF62) en una tienda local, llamando al 1-800-5465637, completando una tarjeta accesoria, ó visitando www.holmesproducts.com. Se recomienda que compre un filtro de repuesto para no interrumpir el funcionamiento de la unidad. INSTRUCCIONES DE ALMACENAMIENTO Si no usará su humidificador por dos o más días ó porque es el fin de estación, siga las siguientes instrucciones: 1. Limpie y seque bien el humidificador según se detalla anteriormente en la sección: instrucciones de mantenimiento semanales. 2. Deje secar completamente el humidificador antes de guardarlo. No lo guarde con agua en su interior. 3. No almacene la unidad con la tapa puesta. 4. Deseche el filtro de mecha. No lo almacene con el filtro puesto. 5. Almacene la unidad en un lugar frío y seco. INSTRUCCIONES DE LIMPIEZA Y MANTENIMIENTO Los humidificadores brindan confort, añadiendo humedad en los ambientes secos. Para obtener un mayor beneficio del humidificador y evitar que el producto se malogre, siga todas las instrucciones de mantenimiento cuidadosamente. Si no sigue las pautas de cuidado y mantenimiento recomendadas, los microorganismos pueden crecer in el agua dentro del humidificador. MANTENIMIENTO DIARIO 1. Antes de limpiar, asegúrese de que el humidificador esté en OFF (Apagado) y desenchúfelo del tomacorriente. 2. Levante el tanque y la cubierta del humidificador. Quite el filtro y colóquelo en el lavamanos o bañera ya que el mismo liberará agua cuando no esté ubicado en el humidificador. 3. Lleve la base y el tanque al lavamanos, quite el filtro de mecha, luego drene y enjuague bien la base y el tanque para quitar cualquier sedimento o suciedad. Seque las partes con un trapo suave o toallita de papel. (NO use utensilios de metal para limpiar o limpiadores abrasivos) 4. Coloque nuevamente el filtro en los soportes del filtro, reemplace la cubierta, luego llene nuevamente el tanque con agua fría de la canilla, según se detalla en las instrucciones de llenado del tanque. MANTENIMIENTO SEMANAL Para quitar la escama: 1. Repita los pasos 1,2 y 3 detallados anteriormente 2. Limpie la base llenándola parcialmente con vinagre blanco no diluido (una taza de 8oz.), o utilizando Cleanse Clean® de Holmes. Deje que la solución repose por unos 20 minutos, limpie todas las superficies interiores con un cepillo de cerda suave. 3. Humedezca un paño en vinagre blanco no diluido y páselo por toda la base para quitar toda la escama. 4. Enjuague con agua tibia para quitar la escama y la solución de vinagre blanca antes de comenzar a desinfectar el tanque. Para desinfectar la base y el tanque del humidificador: 1. Llene el tanque con 1/2 cucharadita de blanqueador clorado y 1/2 galón de agua. 2. Deje reposar las partes en la solución durante 20 minutos, removiéndolas de vez en cuando. Humedezca todas las superficies. 3. Vacíe el tanque después de 20 minutos, y enjuague bien con agua hasta que el olor del blanqueador haya desaparecido. Seque con un paño limpio o toallita de papel. 4. Llene nuevamente el tanque de agua con agua fría; reemplace la cubierta y el tanque de agua. Repita TODAS las instrucciones de uso.
