NOTE: DO NOT block air inlet or outlet. Cord and Plug Installation Safety Instructions: The length of cord used on this appliance was selected to reduce the hazards of becoming tangled in, or tripping over a longer cord. If a longer cord is necessary an approved extension cord may be used. The electrical rating of the extension cord must be equal to or greater than the rating of the humidifier (refer to the rating information placed on the humidifier). Care must be taken to arrange the extension cord so that it will not drape over the countertop or tabletop where it can be pulled on by children or accidentally tripped over. PRE-OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS 1. Be sure the humidifier is switched to OFF (0) and the unit is disconnected from the electrical outlet. 2. Select a location for your humidifier, on a flat surface, about 4 inches (10 cm) away from the wall. DO NOT place the humidifier on a finished floor or near furniture, which can be damaged by too much moisture or water. Place on a moisture resistant surface. 3. Select current month (JAN, FEB, ..., DEC) on the Filter Reminder Dial (see Figure 2). For example, if the current month is January, scroll to select JAN. This will serve as reference for when filter replacement is needed. FILLING THE WATER TANK 1. Open the top housing cover to access the water tank. 2. Push the cover latch to rest onto the latch support, this would hold the top housing cover in an opened position (see Figure 1a). 3. Pour water into the tank. Fill tank with cool, fresh tap water. NOTE: DO NOT fill with warm water. Do not overfill the tank (up to "MAX" line on tank). 4. To close the top housing cover, pull up the top housing cover to release the latch (see Figure 1b) and then close the cover. Figure 1 a) Latch down to open cover b) Latch up to close cover A HOW COOL MIST WORKS Your Holmes® Cool Mist humidifier draws dry air through the rear air intake grill area. This air is then passed through a D E moisture-laden wick filter, which retains the minerals and deposits in the water. The resulting moist air is directed back C into the room from the top air grill. NOTE: This humidification system provides a cool, invisible B G F moisture output. It is normal not to see the mist. NOTE: A humidity level below 20% can be unhealthy and uncomfortable. The recommended humidity level is between 40%-50%. A. Top Housing Cover B. Humidifier Tank C. This humidifier holds about 0.66 gallon of water in the tank and humidifier base. The humidifier will produce up to 0.66 gallon of water in a 24-hour period on low setting, depending on the room humidity and temperature. 6. Plug the power cord into a 120V AC electrical outlet. OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS 1. To turn on your humidifier, switch the Control Knob/ Slider to your desired setting: 0 (Off) - 2 (High) - 1 (Low) NOTE: High setting will produce the maximum moisture level and Low setting will produce the longest run time and quieter performance. Allow up to 30 minutes for the filter to fully absorb water and the unit to produce the maximum moisture output. 2. To turn off the unit, switch the Control Knob/Slider to the Off (0) position. 3. When the water tank is empty, you need to refill the tank. The fan will continue to run to help dry the humidifier. Shut off and unplug the unit. Please follow the Weekly Cleaning Instructions. Refill the tank as directed in Pre-Operating Instructions. If you do not plan to use the humidifier for two or more days, make sure any residual water is drained from the water tank, base and wick filter to prevent algae or bacteria growth. Adjustable Humidistat Turn the Humidistat Knob to adjust the humidistat level. To begin operation, turn the Humidistat Knob to the highest setting ( ). REPLACING THE FILTER Through normal use, waterborne minerals and sediment become trapped in the wick filter. The harder your water, the greater the amount of minerals in the water, and the more often you will need to change your filter. Use Filter Reminder Dial to keep track on how long a filter has been in use. Filter Life - Under normal conditions of continuous use, a brand new filter will operate efficiently for 1 month. It is strongly recommended that a new filter be replaced every 30 days of use. To replace the filter, follow the steps below. 1. Be sure the humidifier is switched OFF (0) and disconnected from the electrical outlet. 2. Open the top housing cover to access the filter (see Figure 1). Remove the top housing cover when replacing filter by pressing cover release button (see Figure 2). 3. Discard the old filter and follow weekly cleaning instructions. 4. Insert a new filter into the filter support in the base. 5. Fill the tank and close the top housing cover (see FILLING THE WATER TANK section). 6. Reset the Filter Reminder Dial by turning the wheel to select the current month (JAN-DEC). 7. Repeat Operating Instruction steps. It will take about 30 minutes for the humidifier to reach maximum output. NOTE: You can purchase replacement filters (model HWF62/ SF212/SWF62) at a local retailer, by calling 1-800-546-5637, or by visiting www.holmesproducts.com. It is recommended that a replacement filter is purchased for uninterrupted use. CLEANING / MAINTENANCE CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS Humidifiers provide comfort by adding moisture to dry, heated indoor air. To benefit most from the humidifier and avoid product misuse, follow all instructions carefully. Please note that this is an electrical appliance and requires attention when in use. In addition, if you do not follow the recommended care and maintenance guidelines, micro-organisms may be able to grow in the water within the water tank. You must routinely follow the cleaning procedures that follow in order to ensure proper, efficient operation of your humidifier. Proper maintenance and cleaning is essential to the continued performance of your unit and the avoidance of algae or bacteria build-up. Daily Maintenance 1. Be sure the unit is OFF and is disconnected from the electrical outlet. 2. Press the cover release button on the back and remove the top housing cover from the base (see Figure 2). Carry the base to the sink, remove the wick, drain any remaining water and rinse thoroughly to remove any sediment or dirt. Wipe clean, and dry with a clean cloth or paper towel. NOTE: The base is dishwasher safe for easy cleaning. 4. Put filter back in, then refill tank with cool tap water as instructed earlier in the Filling Instructions. Do not overfill. Insert the top housing cover back into the base and close the cover. 5. Follow Operating Instructions. Weekly Maintenance Remove scale: 1. Repeat steps 1-4 above. 2. Clean the base by partially filling the base with one 8-oz cups of undiluted white vinegar, or by using Cleanse Clean® solution (Model S1710). Leave this solution in the base for 20 minutes, while cleaning all the interior surfaces with a soft brush. Remove base scale by wiping the base with a cloth dampened with undiluted white vinegar. 3. Rinse with clean warm water to remove the cleaning solution before disinfecting the tank. To Disinfect Humidifier Base and Tank: 1. Fill humidifier tank 1/2 full with water and 1/2 tablespoon of chlorine bleach. 2. Let the solution stand for 20 minutes, swishing every few minutes. Wet all surfaces. 3. Carefully empty the tank after 20 minutes, and rinse with warm water until you cannot detect any bleach smell. Dry with a clean cloth or paper towel. 4. Place filter back into tank and refill the water tank as directed in FILLING THE WATER TANK section. Insert the top housing cover back into the base and close the cover. Turn the unit ON. STORAGE INSTRUCTIONS When not using your humidifier for an extended period of time: 1. Dispose of the filters. DO NOT leave in unit. 2. Clean, rinse and thoroughly dry the humidifier as directed in weekly maintenance. DO NOT leave any water in the unit when storing. Leaving water in the unit may render the unit inoperable for the following season. 3. Place the humidifier in the original carton and store in a cool, dry place. 4. Order your replacement filter for next year's use. Empuje el seguro de la cubierta para apoyarlo en el soporte del seguro, esto sostendrá la cubierta superior en la posición abierta (ver Figura 1a). 3. Llene el tanque con agua fría del grifo. NOTA: NO llene con agua caliente. No sobrellene el tanque (hasta la línea "MAX" del tanque). 4. Para cerrar la cubierta superior, jálela para soltar el seguro (ver Figura 1b) y luego cierre la cubierta. 5. Este humidificador almacena aproximadamente 0.66 galone de agua en el tanque y base humidificadora. El humidificador utilizará hasta 0.66 galones de agua durante un periodo de 24 horas con una configuración baja, dependiendo de la humedad y temperatura del cuarto. 6. Para apagar su humidificador, cambie la perilla de control o el interruptor corredizo a la configuración deseada: 0 (Apagado) - 2 (Alto) - 1 (Bajo) NOTA: Una configuración alta producirá el máximo nivel de humedad y la configuración baja hará que el humidificador funcione por más tiempo y con menos ruido. Espere 30 minutos para que el filtro absorba por completo el agua y que la unidad produzca la mayor salida de humedad. 2. Para apagar la unidad, cambie la perilla de control o el interruptor corredizo a la posición (0) apagado. 3. Cuando el tanque de agua esté vacío, necesitará rellenar el tanque. El ventilador continuará funcionando para ayudar a secar el humidificador. Apague y desenchufe la unidad. Siga las instrucciones de limpieza semanal. Rellene el tanque como se indica en las instrucciones de pre-operativas. Si no usará el humidificador por dos o más días, asegúrese de drenar toda el agua residual del tanque de agua, de la base y del filtro de mecha, a fin de evitar que se formen algas o bacterias. Humidistato ajustable Gire la perilla del humidistato para ajustar su nivel. Para que REEMPLAZO DE LOS FILTROS Durante el uso normal de la unidad, los minerales y sedimentos arrastrados por el agua quedan retenidos en el filtro de mecha. Mientras más dura sea el agua, mayor será el número de minerales que contenga, mientras mayor sea el número de minerales en el agua, mayor será la frecuencia en que tenga que cambiar el filtro. Utilice el Recordatorio del reemplazo del filtro para llevar la cuenta del tiempo de uso de un filtro. Vida útil del filtro: en condiciones normales de uso continuo, un filtro nuevo funcionará adecuadamente durante 1 mes. Se recomienda el reemplazo del filtro cada 30 días de uso. Para reemplazar el filtro, siga los siguientes pasos. 1. Asegúrese de que el humidificador esté en OFF (Apagado 0) y desenchúfelo del tomacorriente. 2. Abra la cubierta superior para alcanzar el filtro (ver la Figura 1). Cuando reemplace el filtro, presione el botón de liberación de la cubierta superior para liberarla (ver la Figura 2). 3. Deseche el filtro viejo y siga las instrucciones de limpieza semanales. 4. Inserte un filtro nuevo en el soporte del filtro ubicado en la base. 5. Llene el tanque y cierre la cubierta superior (consulte la sección CÓMO LLENAR EL TANQUE DE AGUA). 6. Vuelva a configurar el Recordatorio del reemplazo del filtro girando la rueda para seleccionar el mes actual (ENE-DIC). 7. Repita los pasos de las instrucciones de uso. Tomará aproximadamente 30 minutos para que el humidificador alcance su potencia máxima. INSTRUCCIONES DE LIMPIEZA Y MANTENIMIENTO Los humidificadores proveen confort agregando humedad LIMPIEZA / MANTENIMIENTO al aire seco de los ambientes interiores calefaccionados. Para beneficiarse al máximo de los humidificadores y evitar su mal uso, siga todas las instrucciones cuidadosamente. Tenga en cuenta que éste es un artefacto eléctrico que requiere atención cuando esté en uso. Además, si no se siguen las recomendaciones para el cuidado y mantenimiento, crecerán microorganismos en el agua dentro de los tanques. Se deben ejecutar rutinariamente los procedimientos de limpieza que se indican a continuación para asegurar el funcionamiento adecuado y eficiente del humidificador que son esenciales para el rendimiento óptimo constante de la unidad y para evitar la formación de algas y bacterias. Mantenimiento diario 1. Asegúrese de apagar y desenchufar la unidad del tomacorriente. 2. Presione el botón de liberación de la cubierta en la parte posterior y separe la cubierta superior de la base (ver Figura 2). Coloque la base en el fregadero, quite la mecha, drene el agua remanente, enjuague completamente para remover cualquier sedimento o suciedad, limpie frotando con un paño y seque con una toalla de tela o papel. NOTA: Con el fin de facilitar su limpieza, la base se puede lavar en un lavavajillas. 4. Vuelva a instalar el filtro, luego llene de nuevo el tanque con agua fría del grifo como se indica en Instrucciones de llenado. No lo llene de más. Inserte la cubierta superior en la base y ciérrela. 5. Siga las instrucciones de operación. Mantenimiento semanal Para extraer el sarro : 1. Repita los pasos 1 al 4 anteriores. 2. Limpie la base llenándola parcialmente con una taza de 250 ml (8 oz.) de vinagre blanco sin diluir o con Cleanse Clean® solución (Modelo S1710). Deje reposar esta solución en la base por 20 min. mientras limpia todas las superficies interiores con un cepillo blando. Quite el sarro frotando la base con un trapo humedecido con vinagre blanco sin diluir. 3. Enjuague con agua tibia y limpia para eliminar la solución limpiadora antes de desinfectar el tanque. Para desinfectar la base y los tanques del humidificador : 1. Llene cada tanque hasta la mitad con agua y 1/2 cucharadita de blanqueador de cloro. 2. Deje que la solución trabaje por 20 minutos, sacudiendo los tanques de vez en cuando. Moje todas las superficies. 3. Vacíe cuidadosamente la base y los tanques después de 20 minutos y enjuague hasta que ya no se pueda detectar el olor a cloro. Seque con una tela limpia o con toalla de papel. 4. Vuelva a colocar el filtro en el tanque y llene de nuevo el tanque de agua como se indica en la sección CÓMO LLENAR EL TANQUE DE AGUA. Inserte la cubierta superior en la base y cierre la cubierta. ENCIENDA la unidad. INSTRUCCIONES PARA GUARDAR Cuando no utilice su humidificador durante un período prolongado de tiempo: 1. Elimine los filtros. NO los deje dentro de la unidad. 2. Limpie y seque bien el humidificador según se detalla anteriormente en la sección: instrucciones de mantenimiento semanales. NO deje agua dentro de la unidad cuando guarde el humidificador. Si queda agua, la unidad podría quedar inutilizable para la próxima temporada. 3. Coloque el humidificador en su empaque original y guárdelo en un lugar fresco y seco. 4. Encargue su filtro de repuesto para el próximo año.
