IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS When using electrical appliances, basic safety precautions should always be followed to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and injury to persons, including the following: 1. Read all instructions before using the appliance. 2. To protect against electric shock, do not place or immerse cord, plugs, or appliance in water or other liquid. Do not plug in the cord with wet hands. Do not overfill the water tank. 3. Plug the appliance directly into a 120VAC electrical outlet. 4. This appliance is not intended for use by children or by persons with reduced physical, sensory, or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge. Close supervision is necessary when any appliance is used near children. Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance. Keep the appliance and its cord out of reach of children. 5. Never place humidifier in an area where it is accessible to children. Never use humidifier in a closed room, particularly where a child may be sleeping, resting, or playing (a closed room may result in excessive humidity). 6. Keep the cord out of heavy traffic areas. To reduce risk of fire, never put the cord under rugs or near heat registers. 7. Do not operate any appliance with a damaged cord or plug or after the appliance malfunctions, or has been damaged in any manner. Do not attempt to replace or splice a damaged cord. Return appliance to the manufacturer (see warranty) for examination, repair or adjustment. 8. Do not place on or near wet surfaces, or near heat sources such as stoves, radiators, and heaters. 9. Place your humidifier on an inside wall near an electrical outlet. The humidifier should be at least 4 inches (10 cm) away from the wall for best results. 10. WARNING: Do not attempt to refill humidifier without first unplugging the unit from its electrical outlet. Failure to heed this warning may cause personal injury. 11. Unplug from outlet when not in use, before putting on or taking off parts and before cleaning. To disconnect, turn any control to OFF, then unplug power cord from outlet. Be sure to unplug the unit by pulling on the plug and not the cord. 12. Do not block air inlet or outlet. Never drop or insert any object into any openings. Do not place hands, face or body directly over or near the outlet while unit is in operation. 13. Do not use outdoors or for commercial purposes. 14. Do not use appliance for other than intended use. Misuse can cause injuries. 15. Always place humidifier on a dry, stable, level surface. 16. WARNING: Failure to clean device per the cleaning instructions in the Cleaning Section may result in overheating or fire. This humidifier requires daily and weekly maintenance to operate appropriately. Refer to daily and weekly cleaning procedures. Use only cleaners and additives recommended by the manufacturer. Never use gasoline, glass cleaner, furniture polish, paint thinner, or other household solvents to clean any part of the humidifier. 17. Never tilt, move, or attempt to empty unit while it is operating. Shut off and unplug before removing the water tank and moving the unit. Use both hands when carrying a full tank of water. Do not move unit after it has been used until unit cools completely. 18. Do not use humidifier in an area where humidity level is in excess of 50%. Use a hygrometer, available at your local retailer, to measure the humidity. 19. Never operate unit without water in the tank. Do not pour water in any openings other than the water tank. 20. WARNING: Hot steam can cause serious burn injuries. Keep away from steam while in operation, especially children. Do not allow children access to the appliance during operation. 21. Allow unit to cool before refilling water tank or maintenance, as the heater bulb is hot. 22. Do not attempt to remove the water tank within 15 minutes after the humidifier is turned off and unplugged. Serious injury may result. 23. WARNING: CHOKING HAZARD - Humidifier contains POLARIZED PLUG This appliance has a polarized plug, (one blade is wider than the other). As a safety feature to reduce the risk of electrical shock, this plug is intended to fit in a polarized outlet only one way. If the plug does not fit fully in the outlet, reverse the plug. If it still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician. Do not attempt to defeat this safety feature or modify the plug in any way. If the plug fits loosely into the AC outlet or if the AC outlet feels warm do not use that outlet. FEATURES - OPERATIONS small parts. Moisture could cause damage, particularly to wallpaper. 2. Keep unit away from surfaces that can be damaged by water and/or heat (such as wood floors). Place mat underneath the unit during use. Do not place humidifier under overhanging surfaces. 3. Do not place the humidifier on a rug or carpet. The heat sink underneath the humidifier might cause the carpet to be discolored and may cause overheating of the unit. 4. Excessive humidity in a room can cause water condensation on windows and some furniture. If this happens, turn the humidifier OFF. POWER CORD INSTRUCTIONS: A short power-supply cord or detachable power-supply cord is provided to reduce risks resulting from becoming entangled in or tripping over a longer cord. Longer detachable power-supply cords or extension cords are available and may be used if care is exercised in their use. If a long detachable power-supply cord or extension cord is used on short-cord models: a. The marked electrical rating of the detachable power- supply cord or extension cord should be at least as great as the electrical rating of the appliance; b. When the product is of the grounded type, the extension cord shall be a grounding type 3-wire cord; and c. The longer cord should be arranged so that it will not drape over the counter top or table top where it can be pulled on by children or tripped over unintentionally. Do not pull, twist or otherwise abuse the power cord. Do not wrap the power cord around the main body of the appliance during or after use. FCC STATEMENT Potential for Radio/Television interference This device complies with Part 18 of the FCC Rules. Operation is subject to the following two conditions: (1) This device may not cause harmful interference, and (2) this device must accept any interference received, including interference that may cause undesired operation. This product has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class B digital device, pursuant to Part 18 of the FCC rules. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference in a residential installation. The product generates, uses, and can radiate radio frequency energy and, if not installed and used in accordance with the instructions, may cause harmful interference to radio communications. However, there is no guarantee that the interference will not occur in a particular installation. If the product does cause harmful interference to radio or television reception, which can be determined by turning the product on or off, the user is encouraged to try to correct the interference by one or more of the following measures: • Reorient or relocate the receiving antenna. • Increase the separation between the product and the receiver. • Connect the product into an outlet on a circuit different from that to which the receiver is connected. • Consult the dealer or an experienced radio/TV technician for help. • Changes or modifications not expressly approved by the party responsible for compliance could void the user's authority to operate the equipment. HOW ULTRASONIC WORKS: An ultrasonic transducer atomizes water, producing refreshing visible cool/warm mist. NOTE: A humidity level below 20% can be unhealthy and uncomfortable. The recommended humidity level is between 40%-60%. NOTE: To avoid white dust use only distilled water especially if: A) you suffer from respiratory problems or B) you live in an area where the water has a high mineral content. PRE-OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS 1. Be sure the humidifier is switched OFF and the unit is disconnected from the electrical outlet. 2. Select a location for your humidifier, on a flat surface, about 4 inches (10 cm) away from the wall. DO NOT place the humidifier on a finished floor or near FEATURES - OPERATIONS furniture, which can be damaged by too much moisture or water. Place on a moisture resistant surface. FILLING THE WATER TANK 1. Remove the tank from the main housing. 2. Bring the tank to the sink, turn upside down and twist off the tank cap by turning counterclockwise. Fill tank with cool, fresh tap water. DO NOT fill with warm water as this may cause leaking. Replace the cap on tank FIRMLY. 3. Place tank back on to the base. The tank will immediately begin to empty into the base. 4. Plug the humidifier into a 120V electrical outlet. OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS Mist Control To turn the unit ON, turn the Mist Control Knob clockwise to increase mist output level. ( ) is the highest mist output level. Cool Mist/Warm Mist Control Your humidifier can be selected to generate either cool mist or warm mist by pressing the Cool/Warm Mist Control Button ( ). Each press of the button will switch between cool and warm mist, and the respective indicator will illuminate. Cool Mist Indicator Light will illuminate in BLUE when cool mist mode is activated, Warm Mist Indicator Ligh will illuminate in RED when warm mist mode is selected. You can also turn the Mist Nozzle in multiple directions to achieve your desired direction for mist output. NOTE: The warm mist setting is not designed to be hot. It is just above the standard ambient room conditions to prevent the nasal passages from being too cool from the cool moisture. NOTE: To shut the humidifier off, turn the Mist Control Knob to OFF. WARNING: DO NOT move the humidifier with water in the tank or the humidifier base. The moving action of the water may activate the water tank's release nozzle and overfill the humidifier base. This may cause the humidifier to function intermittently, or stop emitting mist. Should this occurs, simply remove the excess water from the humidifier base. • High setting will produce the maximum moisture level and Low setting will produce the longest run time and quieter performance. Aromatherapy Tray Your Holmes® Ultrasonic Humidifier includes an Aromatherapy Tray that is compatible with essential oils or VICKS® VapoPads®* Refill Scent Pads for maximum comfort. 1. Locate the Aromatherapy Tray on back side of the Humidifier Base (See Figure 1). 2. Pull the tray handle to expose the full aromatherapy pad. 3. Place 3-4 drops of essential oil directly onto the pad or place the VICKS™ VapoPads™ into the tray. 4. Push the Aromatherapy Tray back into the closed position. *VICKS® and VapoPads® are trademarks of The Procter & Gamble Company. VapoPads® Refill Scent Pads Recommended Usage: • Not recommended for infants under 10 pounds. • For children between 10-22 pounds, do not use more than 2 pads in a 24 hour period. WARNING: Keep scented aromatherapy pads out of reach of children. NOTE: Refer to VICKS® VapoPads® package for usage directions and warnings. Tank Empty Once the tank is empty, both Cool and Warm Mist Indicator Lights will keep blinking, and then the humidifier will be shut off automatically. Unplug the humidifier from the electrical outlet. Before refilling, empty any residual water from the base and the tank (follow the daily maintenance instructions). Then follow the Filling Instructions to refill the tank and put back into the humidifier to begin operation. CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS Humidifiers provide comfort by adding moisture to dry, heated indoor air. To benefit most from the humidifier and avoid product misuse, follow all instructions carefully. Please note that this is an electrical appliance and requires attention when in use. In addition, if you do not follow the recommended care and maintenance guidelines, micro-organisms may be able to grow in the water within the water tank. You must Figure 2 Control Panel (close-up) H I routinely follow the cleaning procedures that follow in order to ensure proper, efficient operation of your humidifier. Proper maintenance and cleaning is essential to the continued performance of your unit and the avoidance of algae or bacteria build-up. This appliance has no user serviceable parts. Any servicing beyond that described in the Cleaning Section should be performed by an Authorized Service Representative only. See warranty available online. Daily Maintenance: 1. Be sure the unit is OFF and is disconnected from the electrical outlet. 2. Carry the base of the unit to the sink. Do not submerge base in water. Drain any remaining water and rinse thoroughly to remove any sediment or dirt. Wipe clean, and dry with a clean cloth or paper towel. 3. Drain the water from the tank into the sink and rinse tank thoroughly. Wipe clean, and dry with a clean cloth or paper towel. 4. Replace the housing, then refill tank with cool tap water as instructed earlier in the Filling Instructions. Do not overfill. 5. Follow Operating Instructions to turn on the humidifier. Weekly Maintenance: To Remove Scale: 1. Repeat previous steps in Daily Maintenance. 2. Clean the base by partially filling the base with one 8-oz cup of undiluted white vinegar. Leave this solution in the base for 20 minutes, while cleaning all the interior surfaces with a soft brush (brush not included). Gently scrub the area around the transducer (located at the humidifier base) with a soft brush. Tanque vacío Cuando se vacíe el tanque, ambas luces indicadoras de vapor frío y caliente continuarán parpadeando y el humidificador se apagará automáticamente. Desenchufe el humidificador del tomacorriente. Antes de llenarlo nuevamente, vacíe el agua que quede en el tanque y en la base (siga las instrucciones de mantenimiento diario). Luego, siga las instrucciones de llenado para volver a llenar el tanque y colóquelo en el humidificador para que comience a funcionar.
