Installing and Replacing Desktop Board Components Installing System Memory NOTE To be fully compliant with all applicable Intel SDRAM memory specifications, the board requires SO-DIMMs that support the Serial Presence Detect (SPD) data structure. The desktop board has two 204-pin DDR3 SO-DIMM sockets supporting two memory modules on a single channel. To install an SO-DIMM, follow these steps: 1. Observe the precautions in "Before You Begin" on page 15. 2. Turn off all peripheral devices connected to the computer. Turn off the computer and disconnect the AC power cord. 3. Remove the computer's cover and locate the DIMM sockets (see Figure 5). 4. Install the bottom SO-DIMM (Figure 5, A) first. Hold the SO-DIMM with the back edge tilted slightly upwards, insert it into the socket, aligning the notch in the SODIMM with the tab (Figure 5, B) in the socket. Gently push the back edge of the SO-DIMM down until it snaps into the retention arms (Figure 5, C). 5. If you are installing a second SO-DIMM, repeat Step 4 for the second SO-DIMM (Figure 5, D). 6. Replace the computer's cover and reconnect the AC power cord. NOTE If you are installing only one SO-DIMM, it must be installed in the bottom socket (SO-DIMM 1) (see Figure 5, A). 19

Installing System Memory
NOTE
To be fully compliant with all applicable Intel SDRAM memory specifications, the board
requires SO-DIMMs that support the Serial Presence Detect (SPD) data structure.
The desktop board has two 204-pin DDR3 SO-DIMM sockets supporting two memory
modules on a single channel.
To install an SO-DIMM, follow these steps:
1.
Observe the precautions in "Before You Begin" on page 15.
2.
Turn off all peripheral devices connected to the computer.
Turn off the computer
and disconnect the AC power cord.
3.
Remove the computer’s cover and locate the DIMM sockets (see Figure 5).
4.
Install the bottom SO-DIMM (Figure 5, A) first.
Hold the SO-DIMM with the back
edge tilted slightly upwards, insert it into the socket, aligning the notch in the SO-
DIMM with the tab (Figure 5, B) in the socket.
Gently push the back edge of the
SO-DIMM down until it snaps into the retention arms (Figure 5, C).
5.
If you are installing a second SO-DIMM, repeat Step 4 for the second SO-DIMM
(Figure 5, D).
6.
Replace the computer’s cover and reconnect the AC power cord.
NOTE
If you are installing only one SO-DIMM, it must be installed in the bottom socket
(SO-DIMM 1) (see Figure 5, A).
