ENGLISH BAKING POWDER BISCUITS YIELD: 16 BISCUITS 2 cups all-purpose flour 1 tablespoon baking powder 1⁄2 teaspoon salt 1⁄4 cup butter 3 tablespoons shortening About 3⁄4 cup milk Preheat oven to 450°F. Grease baking sheet. Sift flour, baking powder and salt into medium bowl. Using pastry blender or 2 knives, cut in butter and shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in enough milk to make soft dough. Turn out onto lightly floured surface. Knead dough lightly. Roll out 1⁄2-inch thick. Cut biscuit rounds with 2-inch cutter. Place on greased baking sheet.
