OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS 1. Connect to a property polarized outlet only. See POLARIZATION INSTRUCTIONS. 2. Your ORECK cleaner has two speed settings LO and HI. Push the power switch forward on notch for the LO setting for gentle cleaning of drapes and shears. Push the power switch one more notch forward to the HI setting for maximum cleaning power. Pug the switch al the way back to turn the unit OFF. 3. Do not operate without the dust bag and foam filter in place. MAINTENANCE AND STORAGE CAUTION: ALWAYS UNPLUG POWER CORD FROM ELECTRICAL OUTLET BEFORE PERFORMING MAINTENANCE. 1. To insure maximum pick-up power, change bag often. 2. Check loam filter each time bag is changed. II is located at the bottom of the dust bag compartment. When dirty, the filter should be rinsed in water and dried completely before use. 3. Lubrication is not needed. The motor and bearings are self lubricating. 4. The pedestal base contains special receptacles for convenient tool and cord storage. (Fig. 3) For cord storage, set unit on end and wrap cord around pedestal. Secure cord by using dip on side of plug. (Fig. 4) 5. To store the unit use either of the two holes provided on the bottom of the base and secure on a wall or closet hook. Make certain the wall hook is securely anchored to support the 8 lbs. weight of the unit. (Fig. 5) Figure 3 Figu e 4 Figure 5 AUTOMATIC THERMAL PROTECTION DEVICE For your safety and protection as well as the protection of the vacuum cleaner, the electric motor of this appliance is equipped with an automatic thermal protection device. The electric motor may automatically shut off if any one of the following occurs: Abnormal usage, clogging or blocking of any air passage, or a full dust bag. CAUTION: ALWAYS UNPLUG CORD FROM ELECTRICAL OUTLET BEFORE PERFORMING MAINTENANCE. If the thermal protection device shuts off the motor, unplug the vacuum cleaner and check the following. 1. Make sure the hose is not clogged with dirt or other objects. 2. Make sure the dust bag is not full. 3. Make sure the foam filter located at the bottom of the dust bag compartment is not blocked or dogged. It may take up to sixty minutes for the thermal protector to reset depending on the temperature of the motor, room temperature and other factors. When the motor cools sufficiently the thermal protector will automatically reset and the vacuum cleaner will become operational again. POLARIZATION INSTRUCTIONS To reduce the risk of electric shock. this appliance has a polarized plug (one blade is wider than the other). This plug win fit in a polarized outlet only one way. If the plug does not fit fully in the outlet reverse the plug. If it still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician to install the proper outlet. Do not change the plug In any way.
