Selecting AUDIO OUTPUT DVD-V Select the digital output to be output from the optical digital audio output connector of the unit. 1 Press ACTION in Stop mode to display MAIN MENU. 2 Press to select "DVD." 3 Press SET to display DVD MAIN MENU. MAIN MENU DVD LOCK LANGUAGE TV CLOCK CH SELECT: SET:SET END :ACTION DRC (Dynamic Range Compression) OFF: Normal audio range is selected. (Factory preset) ON: For dynamic sound even at low volume. This is useful for latenight listening. [Dolby Digital DVDs only]. Type of amplifier to be connected No amplifier is connected Recommended setting LPCM (DVD) Dolby Digital dts 4 Press ▲▼ to select "AUDIO OUTPUT." 5 Press SET to display AUDIO OUTPUT screen. AUDIO OUTPUT LPCM(DVD) :OFF Dolby Digital :Bitstream dts :Bitstream DRC :OFF SELECT SET END :▲ ▼ :SET :ACTION LPCM (DVD) OFF: Linear PCM of less than 48 kHz/16 bit is output. When playing DVDs recorded in linear PCM of over 48 kHz/20 bit, no digital audio is output. (Factory preset) PCM: When playing DVDs recorded in linear PCM of 48 kHz/20 bit/24 bit or more, digital audio converted to 44.1 kHz/16 bit or 48 kHz/16 bit is output. (Digital output of PCM audio is restricted to 48 kHz/16 bit or below for copyright protection.) Dolby Digital Bitstream: Dolby Digital bitstream (1ch-5.1ch) is output. (Factory preset) PCM: When you have connected an amplifier that doesn't have a builtin Dolby Digital decoder. AV amplifier including Dolby Digital/dts decoder PCM Bitstream*3 Bitstream*2 *1 When connecting an amplifier (with an optical digital input connector) which does not contain the Dolby Digital or dts decoder, be sure to select "PCM." If "Bitstream" is selected, starting DVD play may cause such a high level of noise as to be harmful to your ears and damage the speakers. *2 When a dts decoder is connected, please select "Bitstream" in "dts." If "PCM" is selected, there will be stereo sound. *3 When a Dolby Digital decoder is connected, please select "Bitstream" in "Dolby Digital." If "PCM" is selected, there will be stereo sound. Note: • Make settings according to amplifier connected to optical audio output as shown in above table. 8 Press ACTION to redisplay DVD MAIN MENU and go to step 4 to set up another item.
