Systems Integrator Has to Deliver Fast, Reliable Networks After testing, Option+ selects the Seagate Barracuda ES drive for all critical customer environments Seagate Partner Program (SPP) Enjoy a profitable business relationship with the world's leading provider of hard disk drives. Seagate is strongly committed to the success of its partners. You can access Seagate expertise and innovation, design resources and business inspiration in the Seagate Partner Program (SPP). To learn more about the SPP, go to spp.seagate.com. "As a SATA drive, the Barracuda ES is extremely easy to integrate into the RAID and other systems we provide, and we can do so at a competitive cost." Arnaud Bordalis, chief executive officer, Option+ several hardware configurations, integrating the Barracuda ES drive in RAID racks and in systems equipped with Peripheral Component Interconnect (PCI) RAID cards. The tests also included a comparison with a standalone Barracuda ES drive running in a Web server. Most of the testing took place at customers' locations, and used a representative sample of Option+ customers and their industries. "The Seagate Barracuda ES impressed us and our customers with its vast capacity, fast performance and solid reliability," says Bordalis. Being able to use a drive with 750 GB of storage space in a RAID system means customers can use fewer drives than if they were depending on smaller-capacity drives. There are several advantages to Barracuda ES drive capacity: Customers save valuable space; can control their cost of electrical power consumption; can deal with a low number of system components that might need attention or maintenance; and customers don't necessarily have to fragment large databases among several drives. Speed of the Barracuda ES drive compared well to other manufacturers' drives. The Barracuda ES drive features a SATA 3Gb/s interface and can rapidly handle a substantial workload time. One customer test scenario involved an Internet service provider where the speed of the Barracuda ES drive made a noticeable difference in maintaining an optimal level of services. The Barracuda ES drive proved its outstanding reliability in all the demanding customer environments where Option+ conducted its tests, on all hardware and on operating system platforms. One customer, an education and research organization, noticed a significant difference between the Barracuda ES drive and other drives used in a system equipped with a PCI RAID card: Unlike the other drives in a comparable amount of time, the Barracuda ES drive did not manifest any breakdowns or near-breakdowns. This customer, like others, now wants to replace existing drives with the Barracuda ES drive. "Our customers who were not yet using the Barracuda ES drive now want to run their critical systems exclusively with this Seagate drive," says Bordalis. Perfect Drive for Almost Any Business Need As a result of the drive evaluation, Option+ will be using the Seagate Barracuda ES drive in all critical, demanding, high-capacity customer environments-not just in RAID systems, but also in NAS and SAN applications, and in SCSIbased storage systems. Bordalis explains, "As a SATA drive, the Barracuda ES is extremely easy to integrate into the RAID and other systems we provide, and we can do so at a competitive cost." Option+ values highly its productive relationship with Seagate. "Whenever we needed any support, the Seagate technical team was right there for us," says Bordalis. Like other systems integrators and technology providers, Option+ also has the opportunity to avail itself of Seagate systems design expertise and enjoy favorable business terms offered by Seagate. Option+ continues to find profitable applications for the Barracuda ES drive. For example, customers have noticed that the drive runs very quietly, compared with other makers' products. For some Option+ clients, noise reduction is an important concern in managing their workplace environment-offering another opportunity for Barracuda ES drive installations. "The performance, capacity and reliability of the Barracuda ES are a great fit for almost any customer application," says Bordalis. "The other benefits, such as noise reduction, make it even easier for Option+ to take this drive into a potentially limitless number of client environments."
