CHAPTER 9 Applications 9.1 Overview This chapter discusses the features in the Application screens. The NSA contains various applications for file sharing and downloading. 9.2 What You Can Do • Use the FTP Server screen (Section 9.4 on page 177) to configure settings for FTP file transfers to/from the NSA. • Use the Media Server screens (Section 9.5 on page 178) to share files with media clients. • Use the iTunes Server screens (Section 9.6 on page 180) to share files with iTunes users on your network. • Use the Download Service screen (Section 9.7 on page 181) to download files from the Internet. • Use the Web Publishing screen (Section 9.8 on page 193) to publish shares for people to access files using a web browser. • Use the Broadcatching screen (Section 9.9 on page 194) to download frequently updated digital content like TV programs, radio talk shows, Podcasts (audio files), and blogs. • Use the Print Server screen (Section 9.10 on page 200) to share a printer. • Use the Copy/Sync Button screen (Section 9.11 on page 202) to transfer files between a USB device and the NSA. • Use the Auto Upload screens (Chapter 11 on page 265) to upload files in selected shares to your Flickr and/or YouTube accounts. 9.3 What You Need to Know FTP File Transfer Protocol (FTP) is a file transfer service that operates on the Internet. A system running the FTP server accepts commands from a system running an FTP client. FTP is not a secure protocol. Your file transfers could be subject to snooping. FTPES (File Transfer Protocol over Explicit TLS/SSL) File Transfer Protocol over Explicit TLS/SSL (FTPES) is a file transfer service that uses either TLS (Transport Layer Security) or SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) for secure transfers across the Internet.
