After initially moving the shift lever out of and back into PARK (P), each additional shift cycle will advance the programming from the current mode to the next operating mode. If cycled beyond Mode 4, the vehicle will enter operating Mode 1. Disconnecting the vehicle's battery for up to a year will not affect the programmed mode. Trunk {CAUTION: It can be dangerous to drive with the trunk lid open because carbon monoxide (CO) gas can come into your vehicle. You can not see or smell CO. It can cause unconsciousness and even death. If you must drive with the trunk lid open or if electrical wiring or other cable connections must pass through the seal between the body and the trunk lid: • Make sure all other windows are shut. • Turn the fan on your heating or cooling system to its highest speed and select the control setting that will force outside air into your vehicle. See Climate Control System in the Index. • If you have air outlets on or under the instrument panel, open them all the way. See Engine Exhaust on page 2-27. Lockout Protection The power door locks will not work if the key is in the ignition and a door is open. You can override this feature by holding the driver's side power door lock switch for more than three seconds. Leaving Your Vehicle If you are leaving the vehicle, take your key, open your door and set the locks from inside or with the remote keyless entry transmitter. Then get out and close the door. 2-12
