Throughout the running-in period, be careful to stick to the recommended maintenance schedule and periodic service intervals indicated in the warranty booklet. Failure to comply with these rules will release Ducati Motor Holding S.p.A. from any liability whatsoever for resulting engine damage or shorter engine life. Keeping to the running-in recommendations will ensure longer engine life and reduce the need for overhauls and retuning. Important CONTROLS Operate the brake, clutch, gearchange and throttle controls (lever, pedal and twistgrip) and check that they function correctly. LIGHTS AND INDICATORS Make sure lights, indicators and horn work properly. Replace any burnt-out bulbs (page 98). KEY-OPERATED LOCKS Check that the fuel filler cap and the seat are locked. STAND Make sure side stand operates smoothly and is in the correct position (page 62). E Pre-ride checks Failure to carry out these checks before starting may result in damage to the motorcycle and injury to rider. Before starting, check the following points: FUEL LEVEL IN THE TANK Check fuel level in the tank. Fill tank if needed (page 71). ENGINE OIL LEVEL Check the oil level in the sump through the sight glass. Top up if needed (page 103). BRAKE AND CLUTCH FLUID Check the fluid levels in the respective reservoirs. TYRE CONDITION Check tyre pressure and condition (page 101). ABS light (for Monster 796 ABS only) After key-on, the ABS light (10, fig. 4) remains on when the vehicle speed exceeds 5 km/h; the light turns off to indicate that the ABS system is functioning properly. Pre-ride checks
Warning
Failure to carry out these checks before starting may
result in damage to the motorcycle and injury to rider.
Before starting, check the following points:
FUEL LEVEL IN THE TANK
Check fuel level in the tank. Fill tank if needed (page 71).
ENGINE OIL LEVEL
Check the oil level in the sump through the sight glass. Top
up if needed (page 103).
BRAKE AND CLUTCH FLUID
Check the fluid levels in the respective reservoirs.
TYRE CONDITION
Check tyre pressure and condition (page 101).
