2-1. Driving procedures n Shift range when traveling in S mode Shift ranges are changed automatically to suit the vehicle speed and conditions. (e.g. If "4" is selected, the shift range used is from "1" to "4".) n Downshifting restrictions in "S" mode The selector lever cannot be downshifted if the following speeds are exceeded. (A buzzer will sound twice in this situation.) Downshifting 5→4 4 →3 3→ 2 2 →1 Maximum speed mph (km/h) 120 (194) 88 (142) 59(95) 24(38) 2 When driving The maximum speeds can get lower when the engine is not warm such as in cold climates or before warm-up. n Accelerating rapidly Fully depress the accelerator pedal. Engine speed will increase, and the vehicle will accelerate rapidly. n When driving at a set speed using the cruise control system Engine braking will not operate when driving in "S" mode, even if the selector lever is downshifted to "5" or "4". (→P.111) n SNOW mode automatic deactivation SNOW mode is automatically deactivated, if the key is turned to ACC or LOCK after driving in SNOW mode. n If the transmission selector lever cannot be shifted from P →P.289 n If the shift range position indicator light does not come on when the "S" mode is engaged There may be a malfunction in the automatic transmission system. Have the vehicle inspected by your Lexus dealer immediately. (In this situation, the vehicle operates as if the selector lever is in D.) 95
