In the event of engine overheat, the CDI ignition begins to take measures to prevent engine damage. When the engine overheats, the following process will occur: 1. Overheat lamp comes on. 2. Ignition begins retarding the timing. 3. Engine begins a controlled misfire. This results in a noticeable loss of engine power and a rough running condition. Polaris recommends that as soon as the overheat light comes on, the engine should be immediately shut off and brought to a certified Polaris dealer for proper diagnosis. ENGINE OVER-REV LIMIT The 1999 700 XCR and 800 XCR models also feature an engine over-rev limit to prevent engine damage. If the engine is ever run up to 9100 RPM, the ignition will begin misfiring to prevent any further revving. These safeguards were incorporated in an attempt to reduce costly engine damage as a result of an overheat or over-revving. However, THEY DO NOT GUARANTEE THAT CATASTROPHIC FAILURE CANNOT OR WILL NOT OCCUR. PN 9914859 Rev 01 7/98 Printed in U.S.A. 3
