Engine overheating EWB02270 WARNING POTENTIAL HAZARD Removing the radiator cap when the engine and radiator are still hot. WHAT CAN HAPPEN You could be burned by hot fluid and steam blown out under pressure. HOW TO AVOID THE HAZARD Wait for the engine to cool before removing the radiator cap. Always use a thick rag over the cap. Allow any remaining pressure to escape before completely removing the cap. 8 Wait until the engine has cooled. Check the coolant level in the reservoir and radiator. The coolant level is low. Check the cooling system for leakage. There is leakage. There is no leakage. Have a Yamaha dealer check and repair the cooling system. Add coolant. (See NOTE.) The coolant level is OK. Start the engine. If the engine overheats again, have a Yamaha dealer check and repair the cooling system. NOTE: If coolant is not available, tap water can be temporarily used instead, provided that it is changed to the recommended coolant as soon as possible. 8-67
