Catalytic converter INSTRUMENT AND CONTROL FUNCTIONS deteriorate painted surfaces or plastic parts. EAU36080 Recommended fuel: UNLEADED GASOLINE ONLY Fuel tank capacity: 4.5 L (1.19 US gal) (0.98 Imp.gal) ECA11400 cC Use only unleaded gasoline. The use of leaded gasoline will cause severe damage to internal engine parts, such as the valves and piston rings, as well as to the exhaust system. Your Yamaha engine has been designed to use regular unleaded gasoline with a pump octane number [(R+M)/2] of 86 or higher, or a research octane number of 91 or higher. If knocking (or pinging) occurs, use a gasoline of a different brand or premium unleaded fuel. Use of unleaded fuel will extend spark plug life and reduce maintenance costs. Gasohol There are two types of gasohol: gasohol containing ethanol and that containing methanol. Gasohol containing ethanol can be used if the ethanol content does not exceed 10%. Gasohol containing methanol is not recommended by Yamaha because it can cause damage to the fuel system or vehicle performance problems. EAU13431 Catalytic converter This model is equipped with a catalytic converter in the exhaust system. EWA10860 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 w The exhaust system is hot after operation. Make sure that the exhaust system has cooled down before doing any maintenance work. ECA10700 cC The following precautions must be observed to prevent a fire hazard or other damages. 8 Use only unleaded gasoline. The use of leaded gasoline will cause unrepairable damage to the catalytic converter. 8 Never park the vehicle near possible fire hazards such as grass or other materials that easily burn. 8 Do not allow the engine to idle too long. 3-7
