1 SWITCH FEATURES OVERVIEW What is Management Software? Switch Features Explained This chapter contains introductory information about the SuperStack® 3 Switch management software and supported features. It covers the following topics: ■ What is Management Software? ■ Switch Features Explained For detailed descriptions of the web interface operations and the command line interface (CLI) commands that you require to manage the Switch please refer to the Management Interface Reference Guide supplied in HTML format on the CD-ROM that accompanies your Switch. Your Switch can operate in its default state. However, to make full use of the features offered by the Switch, and to change and monitor the way it works, you have to access the management software that resides on the Switch. This is known as managing the Switch. Managing the Switch can help you to improve its efficiency and therefore the overall performance of your network. There are several different methods of accessing the management software to manage the Switch. These methods are explained in Chapter 3 of the Getting Started Guide that accompanies your Switch. The management software provides you with the capability to change the default state of some of the Switch features. This section provides a brief overview of these features - their applications are explained in more detail later in this guide. For a list of the features supported by your Switch, please refer to the Management Quick Reference Guide that accompanies your Switch.
