2. Serial ATA connectors (7-pin SATA1-6, SATA_E1) These connectors are for the Serial ATA signal cables for Serial ATA hard disk and optical disk drives. If you install SATA hard disk drives to the SATA1-6 connectors, you can create a RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 5, RAID 10 or JBOD configuration through the onboard AMD® SB750 controller. Chapter 2 • These connectors are set to [IDE] by default. If you intend to create a Serial ATA RAID set using these connectors, set the OnChip SATA Type item in the BIOS to [RAID]. Refer to section 3.4.2 Storage Configuration for details. • Before creating a RAID set, refer to section 4.4 RAID configurations or the manual bundled in the motherboard support DVD. • Due to chipset limitation, when you set any of the SATA ports to RAID mode, all SATA ports run at RAID mode simultaneously. • You must install Windows® XP Service Pack 2 or later versions before using Serial ATA hard disk drives. The Serial ATA RAID feature is available only if you are using Windows® XP SP2 or later versions. 2-26 Chapter 2: Hardware information
