Before You Start (The 12x36 IS III is shown in the illustrations.) 1 Attach the strap. zzMake sure there is no slack at the clasp, and that the strap does not loosen at the clasp when you pull it. 2 Insert the battery. zzOpen the battery chamber cover, and insert the battery in the correct + and - orientation shown in the battery chamber. 3 Check that the lamp lights. zzPress the Image Stabilizer button and check that the lamp lights. zzWhen handling batteries, please carefully read " Warning (regarding the batteries)" and " Caution (regarding the batteries)" which are found on page 4 of this manual. zzPlease use two new batteries of the same brand. Also, always replace both batteries at the same time. zzSince the shapes of battery contacts for AA-size batteries other than alkaline batteries* is not standardized, use of certain brand batteries may result in contact failure. * An alkaline battery is a primary cell capable of electrical discharge only and designed to be used only once and discarded. Battery Life (Continuous Use) (Based on Canon's testing conditions) Size-AA alkaline batteries* 25°C / 77°F Approx. 9 hours -10°C / 14°F Approx. 1 hour * Alkaline battery usage times can vary greatly depending on the brand. zzAA-size nickel metal hydride rechargeable batteries (Ni-MH) can also be used. zzRechargeable batteries are batteries which can be charged and reused many times.
