Troubleshooting Notebook Computer Troubleshooting Problem System does not start when the notebook computer is turned on and running on battery power. Possible Cause Battery Pack is drained. Battery Pack is defective. Main logic board failure. Action Charge the Battery Pack. Replace the Battery Pack. Press the Reset Button located on the rear of the notebook computer (Figure 2-3), then restart the system. Contact your Compaq service representative. System does not start when the notebook computer is turned on while connected to an external power source. AC Adapter is not connected properly. There is no power from the external power source. Main logic board failure. Make sure the adapter is properly connected to the notebook computer and to its power source (Figure2-6). Check the external power source by connecting another device to it. Press the Reset Button located on the rear of the notebook computer (Figure 2-3), then restart the system. Contact your Compaq service representative. Application software or files failing to load with an out of memory error message. Insufficient notebook computer memory. Main logic board failure. Close open applications, save your work and refresh memory by rebooting the system. If you are using a high memory consumption application that requires 100MB+ memory, install an optional memory module.
