Security About Passwords Forgotten Passwords Most security features use passwords. When you set a password, write it down and store it in a secure location. ■ If you forget your power-on password or Administrator password, you cannot start the notebook or resume from Hibernation until an authorized service provider resets the notebook. Refer to the Worldwide Telephone Numbers booklet included with the notebook to contact a Compaq Product Information Center. ■ If you forget the DriveLock user password but know your DriveLock master password, you can remove DriveLock protection from the drive. ■ If you forget both your user and master DriveLock passwords, the hard drive is permanently unusable. About QuickLock (Fn+F6) ✎ In this guide, the function keys are capitalized (Fn, F5). The function keys on your keyboard may be lowercase (fn, f5). The QuickLock operating system security feature disables the keyboard and displays the logon screen. QuickLock does not disable the TouchPad. Before you can use this feature, you must set a Windows system password. For instructions, refer to your operating system documentation. After you set your Windows system password: ■ To initiate QuickLock, press the Fn+F6 hotkey. ■ To disable QuickLock, enter your Windows system password. Software Guide 2-3
