BC509 4-Cycle Trimmer/ Brushcutter Electric Start Capable Operator's Manual Read and understand all instruction, warning and danger labels on the unit. English - Page 1 Français - Page 7 Quick Instructions to Assemble Straight Shaft String Trimmers For complete instructions, refer to the Assembly Instructions of the unit's manual. Install the cutting attachment shield on the shield mount by inserting the three (3) screws into the shield mount. Tighten securely with a flat blade screwdriver. NOTE: The cutting shield MUST be installed when operating the unit as a trimmer. 6 in. Min. Remove the cap from the boom. Push the bottom add-on into the coupler. Turn the knob clockwise to tighten. Place D-handle over the shaft housing and onto the bottom clamp at minimum of 6 inches from the end of the shaft grip. Tighten the screws with an appropriate tool until the handle is secure. Tip unit so that the back of the engine is facing up in a vertical position. Remove the oil fill plug from the crankcase and pour the entire bottle of 4-cycle oil into the oil fill hole. NOTE: Do not mix gas and oil Choke Lever Quick Instructions to Start Engine for complete instructions, refer to the Starting/ Stopping Instructions of the unit's manual. Unleaded Gasoline Fill fuel tank with fresh fuel. Primer Bulb Press primer bulb 10x and move choke lever to Position 1. Crouch in starting position. 5 X PRESS the lockout in; SQUEEZE and HOLD throttle control for ALL further steps. Pull the rope 5 times. Choke Lever Move choke lever to Position 2. 3 to 5 X Pull starter rope 3 to 5 times. Making sure to keep throttle squeezed, run unit for 30-60 seconds to warm up. Choke Lever Continue to squeeze throttle control and move the choke lever to Position 3. DIDN'T START? Repeat the starting instructions. If the unit still fails to start, refer to the operator's manual for additional starting and troubleshooting information. HOT RESTART If the engine is hot: Move the choke lever to Position 2, press the primer bulb 10 times, Continue squeezing the throttle control and run unit for additional 30 to 60 seconds to complete warm up. The unit squeeze the throttle control and pull the starter rope until the unit starts. Run the unit for 2-5 minutes. The unit may be used during this time. Quick Instructions to Replace SplitLine® Trimmer Line For replacement line, call 1-877-282-8684 or go to an authorized service dealer. For complete line installation, refer to Line Replacement replacement section of the unit's manual. Spring Inner Reel Spool Bump Knob Unscrew bump knob clockwise. Remove inner reel and spring. 3"-4" Insert 10' of 0.105"SplitLine® through hole in top of reel. Pull most of line through hole until 3"-4" remains. Bend short end and push it into the other hole. Pull tight. Wind line tightly in direction of arrow. Split other end of SplitLine® back 6"-7". Push 6"-7" ends into the holding slots. Insert lines through eyelets in spool. Insert spring and reel into spool. Hold the inner reel in place. Tighten Bump Knob counterclockwise. Pull lines firmly to release from holding slots.
