Fast Ethernet Switching System User's Guide Front Panel The DES-5600 is designed for management at a glance. The front of the DES5600 has LEDs that give you essential information at a glance. The DES-5600 is a modular unit. The chassis has a CPU slot and four slots for media modules. All the modules have LEDs. See Chapter 4, LEDs, for information on interpreting the LEDs. All slots are full sized. All slots support modules and can be used simultaneously. All ports can be used for network connections. The RS-232 port is used for Console Management. All LEDs are located on the front panel of the DES-5600. Their purpose is to enable you to monitor the operation and performance of the DES-5600. Contact D-Link, Inc. sales to purchase additional modules. The front of the DES-5600 is shown in Figure 1. Modules There are three modules available: • 16-Port 10/100TX • 12-Port 100Base-FX module • 4-Port 1000Base-SX Module Note: Back Plane refers to the internal back plane of the DES-5600 series. It is not visible or accessible without opening the case. All modifications and repairs to the back plane must be done by D-Link Systems, Inc. or authorized repair facilities. Do not open the case. Opening the case can cause injury and/or damage. If there is a problem with the modules or the back plane, contact D-Link System, Inc. Technical Support for assistance. Introduction 4

Front Panel
The DES-5600 is designed for management at a glance. The front of the DES-
5600 has LEDs that give you essential information at a glance.
The DES-5600 is a modular unit. The chassis has a CPU slot and four slots for
media modules. All the modules have LEDs. See Chapter 4, LEDs, for
information on interpreting the LEDs. All slots are full sized. All slots support
modules and can be used simultaneously.
All ports can be used for network connections. The RS-232 port is used for
Console Management.
All LEDs are located on the front panel of the DES-5600. Their purpose is to
enable you to monitor the operation and performance of the DES-5600.
Contact D-Link, Inc. sales to purchase additional modules.
The front of the DES-5600 is shown in Figure 1.
Modules
There are three modules available:
16-Port 10/100TX
12-Port 100Base-FX module
4-Port 1000Base-SX Module
Note:
Back Plane refers to the internal back plane of the DES-5600 series. It is
not visible or accessible without opening the case. All modifications and repairs
