Section 4 - Troubleshooting ADVANCED WIRELESS These options are for users that wish to change the behavior of their 802.11g wireless radio from the standard setting. D-Link does not recommend changing these settings from the factory default. Incorrect settings may impair the performance of your wireless radio. The default settings should provide the best wireless radio performance in most environments. To access the ADVANCED WIRELESS setting window, click on the Advanced Wireless button in the ADVANCED directory. ADVANCED WIRELESS SETTINGS Transmit Power: 3-levels of transmit power are available: High, Medium and Low. Beacon Period: This value indicates the frequency interval of the beacon. A beacon is a packet broadcast by the router to synchronize the wireless network. The value is 20~1000 milliseconds. RTS Threshold: If a network packet is smaller than the preset RTS threshold size, the RTS/CTS mechanism will not be enabled. The router sends Request to Send (RTS) frames to a particular receiving station and negotiates the sending of a data frame. After receiving an RTS, the wireless station responds with a Clear to Send (CTS) frame to acknowledge the right to begin transmission. The range is 0~2347 bytes. Fragmentation Maximum frame size. Frame larger than the threshold are Threshold: fragmented into multiple packets and transmitted. The range is 256~2346 bytes. DTIM Interval: Interval of the Delivery Traffic Indication Message (DTIM). A DTIM field is a countdown field informing clients of the next window for listening to broadcast and multicast messages. When the router has buffered broadcast or multicast for associated clients, it sends the next DTIM with a DTIM Interval value. Its clients hear the beacons and awaken to receive the broadcast and multicast message. The range is 1~255 milliseconds, D-Link DSL-2640B User Manual 51
