Dell ® Inspiron™ 3000 Series Documentation Update This document updates information contained in the Dell Inspiron 3000 Reference and Troubleshooting Guide. Microprocessor Options The Dell Inspiron 3000 series portable computer is available with a 200-, 233-, or 266-megahertz (MHz) Intel® Pentium® microprocessor or a 233- or 266-MHz Intel Pentium II microprocessor. All microprocessors used in the Inspiron 3000 series incorporate MMX™ technology. Current applications not designed specifically for MMX technology should gain a slight improvement in performance when run on a system with a Pentium microprocessor with MMX technology. Software written specifically to take advantage of MMX technology (labeled "Designed for Intel MMX") shows even greater improvement in performance, depending on the type of application. In addition, a Pentium microprocessor with MMX technology provides twice the amount of internal cache memory available with the standard Pentium microprocessor. Hardware Features Dell Inspiron 3000 series computers now offer the following enhanced features: • 32 kilobytes (KB) of internal cache memory. • A minimum of 32 megabytes (MB) of synchronous dynamic random-access memory (SDRAM). The 32 MB consists of 16 MB of nonremovable memory on the system board and a 16-MB 3.3-volt (V) memory module in one of the two memory module sockets on the system board. Memory on any Inspiron 3000 series computer can be increased up to 144 MB by installing a combination of 16-, 32-, or 64-MB, 3.3-V memory modules in the two memory module sockets on the system board. • 512 KB of static RAM (SRAM) level 2 (L2) cache memory. Cache memory enhances the speed of many microprocessor operations by storing the most recently accessed contents of system memory. • A 12.1-inch super video graphics array (SVGA) active-matrix color display on the Inspiron 3200 D233ST and on the Inspiron 3000 M200ST and M233ST; a 13.3-inch extended graphics array (XGA) active-matrix color display on the Inspiron 3000 M233XT and M266XT and on the Inspiron 3200 D233XT and D266XT. www.dell.com P/N 29530 Rev.
