Power Supply Update for Dell™ PowerEdge™ Systems This document provides updated information for your Dell PowerEdge system power supplies. To comply with the new European standards for power consumption, Dell Computer Corporation is changing the power supply in your PowerEdge system to a model with Power Factor Correction (PFC) features. The power supplies in the PowerEdge 300, PowerEdge 1400, and PowerEdge 2400 (nonredundant configuration only) will use the new power supplies. PowerEdge 2400 systems with redundant power supply configurations are not changing and currently meet the new requirements. Power supplies with PFC features are more efficient and meet or exceed the current specification. This change will not impact operating systems or applications running on the system. The effective date of the regulation requiring the enhanced performance for systems delivered in the European Union is January 1, 2001. As a part of Dell's ongoing commitment to exceed standards and improve the customer experience, Dell will ship the new power supplies with PFC features worldwide. The transition to the new power supplies will take place in late December in our factory in Ireland and in January to March in our other factories worldwide. Effective December 22, 2000, the CE markings will be removed from these systems shipped from our factories in the United States, China, and Malaysia. Systems not bearing the CE marking cannot be exported to the European Union countries. Table 1 shows the approximate dates the CE marking will be reapplied indicating that the transition is complete.
