DellPowerEdge 6300 and 4300 computer systems equipped with a Dell PowerEdge SDS 100 storage system include two strain-relief clips or one strain-relief bracket in the cable kit. When installed, the bracket or clips prevent deflection of the SCSI cables connected to the host adapter card in the system. Deflection of the SCSI interface cables can damage the SCSI host adapter card. The following items are included in the cable strain-relief kit: Two long or two short SCSI cables Two plastic cable strain-relief clips with adhesive backs or one strain-relief bracket Two alcohol wipes If your kit includes SCSI strain-relief clips, perform the following steps to install the clips: 1. Locate the flat area on the computer's back panel to the right of the redundant arrays of independent disks (RAID) controller card connectors. The flat area is located between the chassis ventilation holes and the edge of the computer cover. NOTE: Do not affix the cable strain-relief clips over the chassis ventilation holes or on the edge of the computer cover. 2. Use the alcohol wipes to thoroughly clean the area on the back panel. 3. Peel the plastic liner from the back of the cable strain-relief clip to expose the adhesive tape. 4. Orient the plastic clip so that the flat tab is on the top and the grooved tab is on the bottom (see Figure 6). 6 SMB Connector and SCSI Cable Strain-Relief Kit Installation Instructions
