Dell™ PowerEdge™ 4400 Systems RAID Memory Update This document updates information contained in your Dell PowerEdge 4400 system documentation. System Memory Requirements Before you upgrade your system to support the PowerEdge Expandable RAID Controller (PERC) 3/Di redundant array of independent disks (RAID) controller, or before you upgrade the RAID cache memory in your system, you must ensure that your system has enough system memory installed. If you are installing 64 megabytes (MB) of RAID cache memory, you must have a minimum of 128 MB of system memory. If you are installing 128 MB of RAID cache memory, or upgrading from 64 MB to 128 MB of RAID cache memory, you must have a minimum of 256 MB of system memory. Upgrading the System BIOS and the PERC 3/Di RAID Controller Firmware Before you install the RAID controller cache memory module, determine the current versions of your system's basic input/output system (BIOS) and the PERC 3/Di RAID controller firmware. The BIOS messages displayed during the power-on self test (POST) will include version numbers of existing components. The BIOS installed on your system must be version A03 or later to support 128 MB of RAID cache memory. The PERC 3/Di RAID controller firmware must be at least the version on the bootable diskette provided with the upgrade kit. To upgrade the system BIOS, use the upgrade diskette, or download the latest version from the Dell PowerEdge 4400 file download page at http://support.dell.com. To upgrade the RAID controller firmware, follow the instructions in the readme file on the upgrade diskette. www.dell.com support.dell.com P/N 02XPJ Rev. A01 August 2000 002XPJ A01
