Memory-resident program A program that can be called on while another program is running. An example might be a notepad utility that you can access while working in a spreadsheet program. The Epson LIGHTON utility is a memory-resident program. Microprocessor A CPU chip, such as the 80286. See CPU. Modem A device that allows a computer to send or receive data over a telephone line. Monitor The piece of hardware that contains the screen and displays information. Motherboard The main circuit board of your computer. Also called the system board. MS-DOS An operating system from Microsoft that comes with your computer. See Operating system. NiCad The type of battery used by your Equity LT-286. NiCad stands for nickel-cadmium. Numeric keypad The number keys grouped on the right side of the keyboard. Operating speed The speed at which the CPU can execute commands. The Equity LT-286 has operating speeds of 8 MHz and 12 MHz.
