Loading and place settings (cont.). Lower Rack The lower rack is best used for plates, saucers and cookware items. Large items, such as broiler pans and baking racks should go along the sides of the rack. If necessary, oversized glasses and mugs can be placed in the lower rack to maximize loading flexibility. Plates, saucers and similar items should be placed between the tines in the direction that allows the item to remain secure in the rack. It is important to ensure that items do not protrude through the bottom of the rack or the silverware basket where they will block the rotation of the lower spray arm. This could result in noise during operation and/or poor wash performance.
