61 Internet connections Internet connections Data connection When you turn on your phone for the first time, it will be automatically set up to use your mobile operator's data connection (if the SIM card is inserted). Turning the data connection on or off Turning your data connection off can help save battery life and save money on data charges. However, if you don't have data connection turned on and you're also not connected to a Wi-Fi network, you won't receive automatic updates to your email, social network accounts, and other synchronized information. 1. On the Start screen, tap . 2. Tap Settings > cellular. 3. Tap the Data connection On/Off switch. Adding a new access point An access point name (APN) is the address your phone uses to connect to the data network. By default, APNs are set automatically when your phone is first set up. If your cellular data connection isn't working, try entering a new APN based on your location and mobile operator. Before adding, have the access point name and settings (including username and password if required) from your mobile operator ready. 1. On the Start screen, tap . 2. Tap Settings > cellular. 3. Tap add apn. 4. Enter the APN and other required settings. 5. Tap to save.
