4 Installing hard drives Hard drive options The enclosure supports up to 25 SAS or SATA hard drives. Always populate hard drive bays starting with the lowest device number (see Hard drive bay numbers). Hard drive guidelines When adding hard drives to the enclosure, observe the following general guidelines: • The system automatically sets all device numbers. • If only one hard drive is used, install it in the bay with the lowest device number. • Drives must be the same capacity to provide the greatest storage space efficiency when drives are grouped together into the same drive array. NOTE: ACU does not support mixing SAS and SATA drives in the same logical volume. Installing a hard drive CAUTION: To prevent improper cooling and thermal damage, do not operate the enclosure unless all bays are populated with either a component or a blank. 1. Remove the hard drive blank. 15467 2. Press the latch and slide it to the right to disengage the lever (1), and then open the lever (2).
