For more information about cabling storage enclosures to the switch, see "Deployment examples" (page 71). g. Connect the power cords. h. Apply power to the MDS600 or D6000 storage enclosures. Confirm successful startup of the MDS600 or D6000 storage enclosure. View the LEDs on the front and rear of each MDS600 or D6000 to monitor the progress of the POST. For more information about MDS600 LED patterns, see "Component identification" in the HP 600 Modular Disk System User Guide or HP D6000 Disk Enclosure User Guide. i. If needed, upgrade the firmware on the I/O modules, using the firmware obtained in Step 8.c. The MDS600 or D6000 must be updated using the Virtual SAS Manager (VSM) utility of the SAS BL Switch. For more information on updating firmware on the MDS600 or D6000, see "Updating firmware on zoned SAS storage (MDS600, D6000, and D2600/D2700 drive enclosures)" (page 68). 9. Install D2600/D2700 disk enclosures. If not included in your solution, proceed to the next step. For detailed instructions on installing D2600/D2700 storage enclosures, see "Installation" in the HP D2600/D2700 Disk Enclosure User Guide.) a. Before installing each D2600/D2700 storage enclosure, record important device information in "HP D2600/D2700 storage enclosure worksheet" (page 107). b. Determine the currently-installed firmware version and record it in the provided spaces in "HP D2600/D2700 storage enclosure worksheet" (page 107). Firmware version information is displayed in the VSM. In the Systems and Devices navigation tree, select the D2600/D2700, and then click More Information. c. Determine if there is a newer version of firmware available. Firmware for the D2600/D2700 can be obtained from the HP Support Downloads website (http:// www.hp.com/support/downloads. Be sure to download and use the .pmc file download; do not download the Smart Component .scexe file, because it is not supported in this solution environment.) d. Rack the D2600/D2700 storage enclosure. e. Insert drives in the D2600/D2700 storage enclosure. Be sure that either a blank module or a drive is installed in each drive bay, to ensure proper airflow and cooling. f. Connect SAS cables from the D2600/D2700 I/O modules to the switch. Be sure to follow provided guidelines of a fault-tolerant cabling configuration to provide a highly available solution. For more information about cabling storage enclosures to the switch, see "Deployment examples" (page 71). g. Connect the power cords. h. Apply power to the D2600/D2700 storage enclosures. Confirm successful startup of the D2600/D2700 storage enclosure. View the LEDs on the front and rear of each D2600/D2700 to monitor the progress of the POST. For more information about D2600/D2700 LED patterns, see "Hardware" in the HP D2600/D2700 Disk Enclosure User Guide. i. If needed, upgrade the firmware on the D2600/D2700 I/O modules, using the firmware and instructions obtained in Step 9.c. The MDS600 must be updated using the Virtual SAS Manager (VSM) utility of the SAS BL Switch. For more information on updating firmware on the D2600/D2700, see "Updating firmware on zoned SAS storage (MDS600, D6000, and D2600/D2700 drive enclosures)" (page 68). Installation steps 59
