UnitedLinux 1.0 Installation Notes for HP Servers (This document is only available in English.) March 10, 2003 Introduction This document was created by Hewlett-Packard for the purpose of providing you with installation procedures that are unique to the installation of UnitedLinux 1.0 on HP Server tc2110, HP Server tc3100, and HP Server tc4100. Review these installation notes before beginning installation of UnitedLinux 1.0. UnitedLinux 1.0 is the engine that powers Linux products distributed by these four companies: Conectiva S.A., The SCO Group, SuSE Linux AG, and Turbolinux, Inc. Installation documentation is provided by each of these Linux distributors for released UnitedLinux 1.0 based products: http://www.conectiva.com/ http://www.sco.com/ http://www.suse.de/en/ http://www.turbolinux.com/ Use the installation documentation provided by these Linux distributors in combination with the procedures documented here to successfully install UnitedLinux 1.0 on your HP Server. Also additional information about UnitedLinux 1.0 can be found on the UnitedLinux website at: http://www.unitedlinux.com Installing the UnitedLinux 1.0 Installation Update Disk The UnitedLinux 1.0 Installation Update Disk must be installed if installing UnitedLinux 1.0 on a server configured with more than one disk controller. If this Update Disk is not installed the OS will fail to boot with a kernel panic caused by the inability to mount root. An error message stating this will be displayed as well. 1. Download the UnitedLinux1.0 Installation Update Disk from HP.com: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Product.jsp?locale=en_US &prodTypeId=15351. Choose the HP Server you are installing on and then choose "Download Drivers and Software". 1
