2. If the appliance is still powered on, power it off. If possible, power off the VLS from the GUI by selecting the Support tab, Shut Down/Restart, and Shut Down. If the GUI is not functional, press the power button located on the front of the appliance. 3 Remove hard drives 1. On each drive, slide the drive release button to the right (1). This automatically releases the drive lever (2). 1 NOTE: If the system does not power off through the GUI or by pressing the power button, press and hold the power button for 10 seconds. 3 2 3. Unplug the network cable (1) and the AC power cord (2). 1 2 2. For each drive, use the lever to pull the drive out of the drive bay (3). Set it on an anti-static mat or place it in an anti-static bag. CAUTION! The server does not completely power off when the front panel power button is pressed. The power button toggles server power between On and Standby. In Standby, the server removes power from most electronics and drives, while portions of the power supply and some internal circuitry remain active. To completely remove power from the system, you must unplug the AC power cord. 4. If the appliance is mounted in a rack, remove it. See the HP StorageWorks 1000i Virtual Library System user guide for instructions. NOTE: Ensure you know the drive bay that corresponds to each drive. Each drive must be replaced in the same bay on the new appliance. 4 Remove system memory 1. Remove the rear top cover. a. Remove the one screw securing the cover to the chassis (1). b. Press the button on the cover (2) and slide the cover to the rear (3). 1 3 2
